Description
This was done a year or two ago for a portfolio. It is one of the few pictures that I am really proud of. This isn't my puppy though, a friend of my brother's left her at our house for a few hours.C & C welcome!
Done with pilot pen on regular 8x11 sketchbook paper.

I think this one is really awesome.
You did a great job capturing the form and anatomy. The structure of the head is great, and the muscles in the neck really stand out.
I agree about the highlights.
One thing I've seen is where people use a white gel pen to add highlights back over a pen drawing like this one.
I'm probably not any good with the other approach myself, because I tend to do mostly digital work, but it sounds like the kind of thing that practicing how to use negative space would help quite a bit with.

It is odd how differently digital and real media pieces can be approached. I love the look of real media though.

It might be fun to play around with something like that white pen some time.
To see how it looks, at least.
Sometimes, I think that it might be fun to try some more real media, besides charcoal.
You know... set up a canvas, and just go nuts.
If I do that, there is probably a %50 chance I'll end up with something awesome, and a %50 chance I'll end up making something that looks like failed abstract art. It might be fun to attempt some time, though.
I like learning a bit about all the different methods to making art.

Thank you ^^ I will keep that in mind for the next animal I draw. I have this habit of going too dark with my pens. But whenever I grab one and start drawing I'm like:

lol To do white fur, you use as minimum lines and ink as possible. Just show the shadows anda few lines so you know it's fur.
