Description After a lot of work, and a hell of a lot of research into the Zelda games and maps, I've finally made a map of Hyrule I am pleased with. I've done two in the past, which were small, cramped and lacked major features. This one, I'm proud to say, has incorporated things from all Zelda games set in Hyrule.

Also I HIGHLY recommend downloading it to see it at full size (2400*1800).

Legend of Zelda
I don't think I added anything from this, since none of the locations are given any names.

Adventure of Link
All the towns in Adventure of Link are (within the game timeline) named after the Sages. So I've included them here. Also most of the palaces on the map are from this, as well as the Swamps in the bottom left corner. The only major changes are the Tantari Desert now being a coastline, and the Great Maze now being part of the Lost Woods (or the part that leads to the Sacred Grove)

Link to the Past
Not masses here, because the location is very similar to OoT. But it does give us the Eastern Palace, the Desert Temple, the Tower of Hera and Turtle Rock. It also inspired a lake in the Snowpeak area and an Ice Palace there.

Ocarina of Time
The daddy of them all, and the main basis point for locations. From that original map, all the major locations are roughly in the same place.

Four Swords/Four Swords Adventures
I've never played the 4Sword games, but from what I could tell there weren't real maps, just stages within set locations. From these two games we've got things like the Fire Tower, the Zuna Settlement and the Pyramid, the Sea of Trees and the Blue Maiden's Village, shortened down to just Maiden Village.

Minish Cap
Inspired a lot of details on the map. Trilby Highlands, Castor Wilds, Mt Crenel, Veil Falls (which feeds Zora's Domain) the Wind Ruins, the Minish Woods

Wind Waker
I know it's not technically set in Hyrule, but since it is set on an ocean that covers old Hyrule, I figured I would do it the honours of having a few locations added. Windfall returns as a port town on the North-east coast. Mother and Child Isle become the Mother and Child Towers. The Savage Labyrinth features on the small island. And two abandoned (or are they?) fortresses are on the northern coast. The Forsaken Fortress and the Six Eye Reef inspired fort. Also a Dragon's Roost mountain makes an appearance.

Twilight Princess
Since it had similarities to Ocarina of Time, not a lot was added. Ordon and Faron woods have been put in, though they are no longer near the Sacred Grove. The four Springs are sort of around where they would be in the game. The Hidden Village is nestled between the Cemetery (where the Shadow Temple would be), the Tower of Hera (I figure the Sheikah may want to keep an eye on it) and the abandoned village of Old Kasuto (which I like to think is where the Sheikah made a home in the past, before they had to abandon it. The Hidden Village is therefore, the New Kasuto seen in Adventure of Link)

The distance guide in the corner is the only thing I'm iffy about. I figure 5 miles isn't much, but I don't want Hyrule to seem like this massive place.

Its a little weird how some of these places are coexistant with Skyward Sword Hyrule o.0
the eastern lake especially >.>
Also, i never noticed how much the Wind ruins could fit into Skyview when put in this arrangement ._.

I've not played Skyward Sword (I just can't get myself to like waving a wii controller around to play), but now that it's out, maybe I'll hit some Zelda wiki's to see what's on the world map and mix it in a little.

The Wind Ruins are just a something little that could fit in anywhere really, but I liked them a lot in Minish Cap, the Wind Tribe too.

Not if it is set before the Master Sword is forged.

This is great! I actually liked the changes you made. And you stay very true to the Zelda Universe despite the changes. And it works with my timeline, which would put Minish Cap, Zelda, and Adventure of Link at the end of the series. Which would mean that some things that exist in those games would not exist in the past(OOT, LTTP, TP) and some things in the past will not exist in the future.

Why do you put Minish Cap at the end? It's got Vaati, and Link didn't even have his hat before it started.

Because Link never had a special hat. There is nothing magical or legendary about it. It is just iconic. Plus, it is a different Link. And in the story they mention that Link And Zelda are childhood friends. Don't you think Zelda from OOT would know about such a boy? What we know is that the beginning of the game tells the story of a DIFFERENT hero from before Link's time. So you can of course place the opening of the game before OOT. But the main story of MC takes place in its own continuity and is the first story in the Four Swords Trilogy.

The reason I would place those games towards the end is because of the Maidens(descendants of the Wise Men), the fact that Ganon is no longer able to hold his Gerudo form like in later games, and the fact that Link has the White Sword that is infused with magic that turns it into the Four Sword. In the very first Zelda(which is second to last in the timeline), Link's second weapon is the White Sword. So if Four Sword Adventures is the last in the Trilogy it would make sense that hundreds of years after sealing away Vaati and Ganon that the magic seal would somehow weaken, releasing Ganon and Vaati. That would explain why the world of Hyrule in the first Zelda looks like a wasteland. Perhaps Ganon and Vaati fought to the death, and Ganon was the victor. The Master Sword wasn't used to defeat Ganon this time because in LTTP it was said that the sword was never used again. And if MC was at the start of the timeline it would most likely have the Master Sword in it.

Whoops, posted that in the wrong place. Ahem...

Not if Minish Cap is set before the Master Sword is forged. This would explain why there is no mention of Ganon in it. Also, the White Sword in Zelda 1 isn't the same one as in Minish Cap. The one in Minish Cap was originally the Picori Sword wielded by The Hero of Men. It was broken by Vaati after he won the tournament and Link set of on a quest to reforge it in order to defeat Vaati and restore Zelda. Once you bring it to the Elder he reforges it and it becomes the White Sword. Then you infuse it with the Elements and it becomes the Four Sword.

No mention of The Hero of Time, Ganon, or The Master Sword, plus the game itself saying that this is the first time a Hero has been seen wearing a green nightcap, places this at the head of the line for me.

The Master Sword was not made to defeat Ganon so those two things have nothing to do with each other.

"However, it could not be assumed that only a good person would get their hands on the Triforce. For that reason, the people of Hyrule were told by the gods to make something that would repulse any evil that may kidnap the Triforce: the blade of evil's bane." (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (JP version) manual, pg. 7)

Here you have Eiji Aonuma saying that he wants to place Skyward Sword as the first game in the series but simply isn't allowed to in case they want to make games that take place before or after. But this Link is the first. So that blows your whole hat thing out of the water.

""Yes, there is a master timeline but it is a confidential document!" explains Aonuma-san. "The only people to have access to that document are myself, Mr. Miyamoto and the director of the title. We can't share it with anyone else! I have already talked to Mr. Miyamoto about this so I am comfortable releasing this information--this title [Skyward Sword] takes place before Ocarina of Time. If I said that a certain title was 'the first Zelda game', then that means we cant ever make a title that takes place before that! So for us to be able to add titles to the series, we have to have a way of putting the titles before or after each other."" (Official Nintendo Magazine (Future Publishing), pg. 51)

Much appreciated! I've always wanted a definitive map of Hyrule, since it seems to change so much between games it's like they're not the same place even when there are direct sequels involved. At some point I hope to go in and do an even more detailed version of the map, adding in paths, making the towns, etc. I'm also thinking about making maps for the other locations, such as Termina (Majora's Mask) and Holodrum and Labrynna (Seasons and Ages), but since they've only been in one game, I'd have to use a bit more creative license.

I think the map changes simply because the game designers do not want to give gamers an identical experience. Though it is annoying, I do understand it. I would love to see a more detailed map! That would be a very time consuming endeavor though.

As far as games go, I would say there is no way to put Holodrum and Labynna in the same place. They are just too vastly different. Plus, they are different worlds, much like that of Termina. But I would be all for seeing maps of those places in detail, just you know...seperate. Oh, even Koholint island would be fantastic!
