Description Fruit of the Arbutus Unedo tree, otherwise known as the strawberry tree. Arbutus Unedo is translated as "I eat only one" believed to be said by Pliny the Elder, though it is unclear why. The fruit is edible, however, is not sweet like the strawberry we are familiar with. It is usually used to make jams, brandywine or teas. It is recommended that using this as teas or tinctures, that one use caution because overdose can be toxic.

It looks interesting Riki! I've never seen it before. Have you eaten it? What does it taste like?

I have and I made it into a tea. Just off the tree it's kind of blandly sweet, almost flavorless and really seedy. Not super attractive as a fruit. As a tea I mixed it with a clementine and cinnamon and it's very similar to a cider, which was quite good actually. It's supposedly rich in antioxidants and vitamin C and is also supposed to be good for an antiseptic as well.
