Description
This is what is left of the ship Peter Iredale. She ran aground October 25, 1906 near Fort Stevens in Hammond, Oregon. She hit the ground so hard that it had snapped 3 of her 4 masts. There were 27 crew members along with 2 stowaways, no one was hurt and all were rescued. She was on her way to Portland, Oregon from Salina Cruz, Mexico. At the mouth of the Columbia River, there are high winds and really strong currents. Along with thick fog and a high tide, this is what was determined to have driven the ship into the shore.Related content
