"I'm not sure what's more impressive." Ruki observed drily as she took in the sight of the two of them. "Your creativity or the effort you poured into your costumes."Of course, considering her costume was an authentic Shinto Miko ceremonial garment that she had hunted down through no small effort, and Renamon looked stunning with her fur dyed to match the wolf from that painting adventure game, it was fair to say that she had room to be snooty about other people picking costumes at the last minute.
Guilmon, however, would not allow her insult to stand without protest.
"But it's deeper than you think!" He protested, his voice going high-pitched in his indignation. "I'm not just going as Takato, I'm going as Takato disguised as me, disguised as Takato!" Takato was quick to pick up the slack and spoke just as enthusiastically.
"And I'm going as him, going as me in a really great disguise, going as Guilmon in a bad disguise!"
Ruki's deadpan gaze could have frozen water, but Guilmon just looked proud.
"...Gotta hand it to you, goggle-head, you managed to raise an innocent baby into a world-class b-" Renamon swiftly interrupted her partner by sweeping in front of her. "-Let's get to the party!"
Despite her grouchy attitude, Ruki hadn't put a damper on their mood or their enthusiasm for Terriermon's costume party, because she had been wrong about Guilmon.
While he had been teasing her to a degree, there was a certain... blurring between the two of them. They had biomerged many, many times since that fateful day in the Digital World, more so than the others, and it had lead to a stronger bond, but also a fuzzier line between their identities.
And they found that they were okay with that, honestly.
So while the others might have noticed that they were finishing each others sentences and acting in unison far more than normal, they hadn't yet realized how very honest their two costumes were.
For now, though, they were happy to enjoy a party with their/his friends, and proudly posed for their photo, telling the truth via disguise.

And yet again, color adds another layer of coolness to the picture. Often, it seems like art loses some detail from inking to full coloration, but in this case, it seems to have added. Before now, I hadn't noticed that Takato's "ears" were made of cardboard, or that he had Guilmon's symbol inked on his forehead!

I'm not sure how well I can express it, but...you were extremely successful in expressing the idea behind the picture, in the story. Examining the effects of frequent biomerging on a physio-biological level is one thing, but you've made poetry of it. The title is suddenly deep and meaningful, and the final line - ". . . telling the truth via disguise" - is one of the best lines I've read in a while. I'm very, very impressed with the cumulative work you've put together in this submission ^__^

Ruki was not being unfair when she made her scathing comments about the quality of their costumes, but a lot of love went those costumes. ...Even if there wasn't much money that went into them.
