"YOU KNOW SOMETHING KUBO, BACK WHEN YOU JUST TOLD STORIES, BEFORE YOU WENT ON THIS GREAT ADVENTURE, YOU WERE STILL VERY MUCH A HERO."This has always been my favorite part of the movie! The entirety of it is Kubo having a family for the first time in his life, going fishing with them, having a dinner conversation with them and even sharing a meal (if a messy one). In my opinion, I think it's the very heart of the movie itself
Commentary: This was one of my favorite pieces, as always. I think this turned out amazingly! The sushi, the ocean, the characters everything!
I think part of it has to do with the sky and how it reflects (no pun intended) their surrounding on the Long Lake.
More Commentary: I was originally going to make it Beetle telling Kubo about how he was a hero, but after some thought and an outside opinion, I realized it wouldn't feel as natural as (say) the two of them having sushi together. Looking at it, I'm glad I made that choice. It feels real and organic, as though capturing the very memory Kubo was able to make with his dad.
