This is a lot like something a came up with 3 years ago. I made up a kind of creature called "atrum vertos" (meaning dark shifters or something like that). They were basically the same as akous lainen except they could be other animals, but wolves and other mammals were the most common. Atrum vertos almost extinct in the wild and most of them lived in laboratories where they were cruelly tested on and worked to death.
I made this up long before I came to dA or read this comic. Confidence huh? (I'm not making this up)
