Description This is my first attempt at painting shoes. And it was actually done a while ago (I've completed and started two other pairs so far...) The other one is a Phoenix, but I already gave that one away! And now I'm making a lion!

It was inspired by and this picture: [link]

I just noticed all of the detail he packed into his beautiful piece and I wanted to see if it might be possible to transfer all of that detail, not only with a different medium, but also onto a whole different surface than I'd ever painted before.

It's a little cracked because the first time I wore them it started pouring down rain! My poor shoes almost didn't make it! And I wish you could see the whole tail. It got a little cut off in the angle... EDIT: And here you go!

Anyway, the title made me laugh, because the tail feathers of peacocks are called 'coverts', and groups of peacocks are called "parties"... I just thought that was funny! I mean, what is up with people naming groups of animals such weird and oddly fitting names (lions are in "prides", crows form a "murder"... That one is a bit scary, though... D: )

Thanks for the very nice comment! I appreciate it immensely! Unfortunately I really (really) hate painting shoes, so there won't be anymore of these to give away !

ur amazing! u know that right???? what if u used textile paint? coz acrylics are waterbased right? what if it rains?

Yeah... I actually just recently heard about textile paint... So I didn't use it (Definitely gonna get me some next time I do these... If ever again. I really don't like making these shoes!!!). But I also heard that Touch Twin Permanent markers will work, too (Not so sure how valid that is, though).

But I used an Acrylic Fixative Spray to seal the paint, so even though it nearly flooded, the shoes were still intact (although just a little bit cracked! )

And thanks a lot!! I'm so glad you like them (Maybe I'll try to get a better picture of the full shoes...)!

my niece wants me to paint her shoes too.. but im not so sure about it coz maybe i'd end up ruining the shoes.. hmmm any advice?

...Don't do it?

Haha, just kidding... Sort of... Other than that, I'd tell you to draw out what you want first on a separate piece of paper, then paint the background of the shoes, then outline (lightly) what you want to do... It's basically like painting. Just on shoes. And it'd probably be better to use markers (the Touch Twin?) or something, because the acrylic paint cracks.

uh-huh .. i'd do that if i know what Touch Twins are.. hihihihihi

maybe i'd experiment on some discarded pair of shoes first.. hmmmm....

Maybe you should try one with tigers one it... tigers are the best~!!

...I do love tigers... So much. But I really really HATE doing these shoes! It's very hard to paint on a curved surface (that bends and moves when you paint on it!!). Maybe you should try it! Although it'd be hard to scan shoes when you get a scanner...

Maybe I will try it when I pick up acrilic paints but for now I enjoy excluding the fundamentally frustrating canvas of shoe rubber~ I can't imagine putting up with a bending medium.

Sounds good! I think it was a good experience, but not something I'd want to do again! (or maybe if I get some supplies that won't crack and be useless after so many times of wearing it!)

On the bright side your shoes must've been really praised for the time that it wasn't cracked~!

... Bright side? I guess... I dunno, being praised makes me feel really awkward!! Haha! I know that must sound stupid, and I do like praise (I mean, I spent a hell of a lot of work on those shoes, I'm happy people thought they were cool), but I just don't know what to say in those situations... I'd prefer putting them online and hiding behind my screen name instead!

But it was a new experience, and I'm glad that my temporary leave of insanity has passed. Thanks a lot for all of the comments!

Being praised just makes me feel really good about myself for a while. I don't know how to reply to the person... but I hope I get across that kind words like that are awesome. I'm like you, I hide.

Reattached-Kite In reply to AmiciaLioncourte [2009-10-04 02:53:32 +0000 UTC]

I think mine is just that I'm awkward anyway... About everything... So being praised isn't much different...

But yeah, it's much safer to just hide!

I was thinking that too but if we always hide then how will we ever meet awesome people like LT? I think I'm willing to take the chance now... hesitantly, you know.
