Description
***This is a non-profit fan story I’m working on that is about The Gremlins. I do not own The Gremlins, as their creator is Roald Dahl. Last names have been given to characters who never had one to begin with, and everyone except The Gremlins and Gus (the pilot) belong to me. Please enjoy nonetheless!***~~~
‘Sqn Ldr Gus Hawker
1913-2012
You will be dearly missed.’
Teddy Hawker, a girl of only 12 years, had been through a lot. Custody battles, fearing her father, hating her step-mother, missing her real mother, and lost her Great-Grandfather when she was 6. Six years later, she dealt with bullying and typical teenager hood, but also mental illness.
She visited her great-grandfather’s grave a lot, given that it was down the road from her father’s home. She would sit there for hours, just talking and laughing softly to herself. Passing people would give confused and sad looks to the young girl. She was all alone, with only her great-grandfather’s gravestone as her sole company. That all changed one day.
She walked down that familiar route from school to home, flowers in hand. Chrysanthemum, his favorite flower. She opened the gate to the cemetery and walked to that familiar spot under the tree; the place where he asked to be buried. He would bring Teddy there and tell her the stories of his little friends, The Gremlins. She’d always believed she would encounter one someday, and her great-grandfather would always say, “If you do, treat them kindly and with a smile. Oh, oh! Also, if you ever meet Gus, tell him you’re his unique, adorable, and bloody amazing great-goddaughter.”
Gus really did love his great-granddaughter. He thought she was just spectacular. Talented in the arts from the age of just three, he would relish in her cuteness and talent. She danced, sang, drew, and played piano for him until his death date.
February 14... Teddy’s birthday.
She shook off that thought. ‘No need to be sad,’ Teddy thought. ‘He’s still there, I know it. However, I don’t have a Sixth Sense to see him. That would be cool, I suppo–!’
Stopping in her tracks, Teddy realized that the flowers she brought to him last month were nowhere to be scene. This puzzled her, as she usually changed out the dying ones for a fresh batch. But a fresh array of not just Chrysanthemums, but Aster, Lilac, And Roses we’re there on his grave.
What really got her was the little creature sitting in front of his grave. The creature appeared to be crying. She kneeled down and set her flowers with the others.
“Hey, little guy. It’ll be okay, I miss him too,” She gently scooped up the tiny creature into her hands, holding it close to her chest. It seemed to calm down quite a bit, and once it fell asleep, she got a good look at it.
It was maybe 6” tall, green face, and it wore a weird red suit thing. It also had white suspenders holding a white belt in place. It wore cute little brown shoes on it’s small feet. Could this be one of the Gremlins her great-grandfather Gus talked about? In any case, she decided to take the small little guy with her. She kept him in her hands, close to her chest where her heart was racing with excitement as she quickened her pace back home.

After dinner, she decided to wake up the sleeping thing. Mentally preparing for what it had to say, she gently nudged it with her finger.
“Hey, its time to wake up,” She softly said with a gentle smile. The creature, who groaned and moaned, managed to get up steadily. He looked up only to meet bright brown eyes, twinkling with wonder. It was startled, but managed to keep its cool. It cleared its throat.
“‘Ello there! Thank you for, um, comforting me,” The tone of voice confirmed it to be male, alright then. He seemed quite bashful as he laughed nervously. He seemed to float in mid-air as his feet began to flutter like a dragonfly’s wing.
“Er, I’m Gremlin Gus. It was a pleasure to meet you, but I must return home. If you’ll excuse me–ack!”
Teddy grabbed him before he could fly off. THIS is the Gus her great-grandfather was talking about! She needed to act quick, or she’ll never see him again!
“Wait!” She sighed, remembering the words he told her to say if she ever met Gus. “I’m your ‘unique, adorable, and bloody amazing’ great-goddaughter, as great-grandfather loved to say so much.”
Gus’ eyes widened. His hart began to race. There was no way this was his great-goddaughter. But she did look so much like him. She acted like him too; timid, but kind and makes decisions on a whim. Was this really her? He was clearly taken aback, so she decided to prove it.
“I have many old pictures of him when he was younger, including a few that had you in them,” She pulled out a picture of when he and his old human friend were younger, “I understand that you two were very close, were you not? He would always tell me stories of you guys, and I would always dream about meeting one of you, but never THE Gremlin Gus himself! I’m kind of honored, but why were you never there for me..?”
“...Ah...” He spoke, the shock clear in his voice. This is his great-goddaughter. And he missed out on her birthdays, celebrations, ceremonies, everything! Even his old friend’s death... He felt completely and utterly guilty. She sat against the wall of her room, her eyes dull and saddened, it just broke Gus’ heart to see her like that.
“Hey, don’t be like that now. I apologize for not being there for the majority of your life, sweetheart, it’s just that I... I never got the chance to meet you formally,” He sighed, “and I wasn’t even there for Gus’ funeral... what kind of friend am I? Is there any way I can make it up?”
She thought, long and hard on that, but it was interrupted by her step-mother’s loud voice. “Teddy! Get ready for bed please!”
“Alright, Iris!” She called back, sighing heavily. “I dunno Gus, do what you want.”
“Alright then, Teddy,” He smirked, “I will do my best to be there for you, even if it kills me!” Teddy thought it funny and cute how triumphant this small little Gremlin looked. She chuckled, which put a smile on Gus’ face. He flew up to her face and planted a small kiss on her cheek.
“I must return to my home now, but we will see each other again! Til then, stay safe, my dear! Farewell!” He announced proudly, flying out of the open window into the woods behind her house. She stared out the window and sighed happily.
What a dork.

Teddy Hawker
Age: 12
Height: 4’ 6” (137 cm)
Weight: 120 lb (54.43 kg)
Relatives: Terri Hawker (birth mother), Iris Dwyer (soon-to-be step mother), Paul Hawker (father), Sqn Ldr Gus Hawker (great-grandfather)
Suffers from: depression and a little of social anxiety
Why?: She witnessed a lot of traumatic things that can bring about these conditions: Her Great-Grandfather, whom she was very close to, died when she was 6. Her birth mother was murdered and her father was cleared of the charges because a lack of evidence when she believed he did it (she thinks it’s pointless to fight it now because she says no one believes her). Her step mother neglects her and has said and expressed how much she hates her, but when Teddy’s father is home, she plays the role of ‘Loving Housewife and Mother.’ She lost her best friend Lyra to suicide. So Teddy has been through a lot.
