Yeaaah! An update finally! This was the last photo I took of all my collection:Pelts (02.28.13)
Been a while, huh? This time I didn't include mounts. Or small dry preserved pelts. Or anything in my freezer (like Bracken).
And this time I had to take all 23 pelts downstairs in to the living room, stand on the stairs, and take a picture that way!

this is not a japanese tanuki, but a raccoon dog that originated in germany. i am just calling it a tanuki because i prefer that word. they are pests in european countries, and frequently hunted. it is very much legal, and not black market. nevermind the fact i don't sell or ever come on here lmaooo

Yes I plan on really getting into it when I'm older! I'm already getting some tails and rabbit hides for my birthday so that's how I'm gonna start ;w; My parents don't like it too much though which kinda sucks haha.

i'm pretty luck in that department, my dad likes taxidermy a ton (he likes mounts better than pelts though) so he got me my first pelt years ago. now i get my own stuff usually <3
my mom was really "eh" on it, but she even helps me skin animals sometimes when i ask her LOL!
so maybe you can ease your parents into it :-0 be like, "i bet u never felt a coyote before.. if i get a pelt you can~" or somethin like that x-D <3

Haha well my mom was okay with it enough to buy the stuff for me. Hopefully I can get some stuff with the gift cards I'll prolly be getting this holiday! ^o^
I used to wear my two fox tails in public but my stepdad was all like "PETA blah blah blah" and my mom was like um no not anymore :v
People complimented me on my tail too. She's just worried I'll get pestered about it I guess, but once I get my own money and/or place I'll surely get my collection going! uwu

aww i hope u can wear ur tail again someday! i wear a black mink tail around and it's actually really comforting because when i feel anxious i can just. pet it x-D but it also doesn't stand out a lot like a fox tail so no one has ever said anythin to me about it besides family members!

Ah I dunno if he really supports them but he mostly warned me about them. I think they're just trying to protect me from people like them I suppose. But they respect my opinion.
Ah I'm interested in anything from canines, like foxes, coyotes, and wolves mostly. I also love raccoons and raccoon dogs.
But I'm willing to take whatever I can get, I'm not too picky. :3
I like the things you can make from fur like headdresses and bags and blankets (but blankets are like expensive my god) but I'm not so much of a fan of fur coats really.
Have you seen the movie Princess Mononoke? One of the characters wears a mask with a wolf fur attached to the back of it. I want to make something like that someday *_*
But I also love them as they are too. I also enjoy claws, teeth, skulls, etc.

ohhh i see, that's a good group to be interested in x-D i'm very interested in felines but they are soooo expensive x-x
canines aren't cheap, dependin on what u get, but the prices vary a lot more so they tend to be easier to find and more affordable nwn
pretty easy to find really good deals too!
ohhh yes, i love headdresses! they're so fun ;w;; and yeah, blankets really are expensive x-D i'm not super fond of fur coats either. they're kinda weird. the only reason i have a vest is because it's jungle cat fur and i was desperate! only jungle cat fur item i've ever found! i was gunna take what i could get! i don't really wear it though, just display it and pet it!
ohh yes! its been a while since i've seen it, but princess mononoke is a very cool movie ;w;; that would be so cool if u made somethin like that!!! *v*
and heee yeah i'm a big "i dont care what it is per se, i will keep any claw, bone, etc that i find!" person x-3

What a beautiful collection! This is like, my dream LOL. If you're alright with me asking, where did you get them? I want to get some more pelts but I can only ever find ridiculously priced ones online.

yeah that's fine! though i really don't have a lot of specifics!
i find mine in various places, the following are all places i have gotten pelts:
hideandfur, ebay, glacierwear, trappers, collectors, private sellers
honestly it's kind of like,,, you gotta learn what the prices are, and keep track of how the market is. have the prices risen? have they lowered? try and learn what is high and what is low and a good deal and what's not :-3 just check sites a lot, mainly taxidermy.net- you will definitely start noticing when the prices rise/lower! see what people are paying for them recently and such. currently, the market is up since 2011 (when i started collecting) and it's kind of frustrating LOL! (i got my cross fox pelt- now a mount- for $125 back then. now crosses run into the 200's+!)
you can always message me too, and ask if a price is good or not LOL. i have a general idea of most pelt prices and i can do my best to tell you if it seems okay or not!

you're welcome, i try LOL. i know how it was getting into it. i was always interested in taxidermy growing up, but starting to seriously collect is a whole 'nother thing!
but yeah, the prices definitely have gone up. but it's been a subtle rise in a way. you almost don't notice it unless you were actively interested in buying something/did buy something!

I've only seen two taxidermy mounts of a pallas's cat, and I've only heard of one other pelt (though it is headless).
So. They are REALLY rare!
LOL! She's one of my most treasured pelts, so she will never be for sale
I guarantee she will be with me until the day I die. Sorry!
