As much as I like the concept, and the burn effects, I just can't like the style. The buildings seems too cartoony for a Pokemon game. It looks like a Mario one.

Well if you have a look at some of the HG/SS tiles that have been remade into 2d ,like Alucus', they're pretty complex. Lots of detail on the windows and doors especially, and that sort of 3d look. With this, the windows and little lines between floors look a bit bland and flat due to lack of detail and lack of shading respectfully.
When you look at the burned one, there's all of those nice burn effect, and it's a lot easier to see where stuff is if you know what I mean. Basically, just more detail.
