Description
Hey Guys!Has been a long ass time since I posted some new art, and hopefully I will be able to post up a few new drawings regularly for the next little while.
This piece is one I did for Darkhorse comics recently. It was published in their 20th Anniversary book, in which they got different creators to draw different characters to those which they originally did for the company. For example, I was asked to draw THE MASK, whereas Doug Mahnke drew Monkeyman and O'brien, Art Adams drew Ghost and Mark Nelson drew Go Boy 7!
That comic came out yesterday, so keep an eye out for it at your local shop. It's 25c, which I think is a bargain
On the art side of things, this was a fun one off piece. The trouble with doing a one off gig like this is that you want to fit as much as you can into the one drawing, and things can get confusing. I'm not sure I did the character justice, but there are certainly plenty of 'easter eggs' in there for any true fans of "The Mask Strikes Back" comic series. I had fun with it anyway, and it was a good chance to make some art with a colourist I really dig, Edgar Delgado.
Pencils by me.

haha....well, in the comic, this incarnation of the MASK calls everyone 'Snacky'. The creator of the mask is Mike Richardson, so I kinda played with the words a little, and came up with "Mikes Snacky bar"

Heheh yeh man, it was prolly 3-4 yrs ago, but I got inspired by you and as soon as I got home I was drawing my ass off! I remember you had like 2 or so A3 folders and it was like a 'treasure chest', it was awesome! What gig are you on at the moment? And I heard you had a gig at Disney a while ago, how were they treating you there? 'Cos I was planning on applying to work for them, but decided not to, 'cos they said it's very 'factory' like and you won't use ur imagination, cos you gotta draw what THEY want you to draw. And I'm planning on becoming a freelancer instead, any tips, bro?

haha...dam, that long ago eh? I had a look through your DA gallery, and you got some nice stuff in there. i particularly dug your Sharknife pic. nice lines there.
My current gig....well, I havn't said much about it yet, but I am working with Aron Lusen from Liquid! on a new comic book. All I can say is that it is my proudest comic book work so far, and I can't wait till I can show it.
I did do a very small job for disney, but it was some character design stuff, and it was for tv animation in U.S.A. Not the local Sydney stuff. As far as working for Disney, it would be cool. i rekon you would learn so much at a place like that. I don't think disney Aus exists anymore though. Plus all they do is 3D crap now anyway...tips for becoming a freelancer....just work your ass off man. Draw and then draw some more. get your work out there and seen by as many people as possible. When your good enough the offers will start rolling in. But you gotta be active about it.
Keep in touch!

I'm rooting for it to cross seas and end up here.Really.
Original Mask could destroy any of the other versions, just like the original underground-esque Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.Maybe I could think of other characters where this happens, but I think I've not acquired such comic knowledge yet

Red-J In reply to Haeeryu [2006-07-08 01:00:45 +0000 UTC]
heh....thats cool. There is a chance it could end up over there I guess. Do you guys have a shop there which actually sells American comics? I saw alot of those editions which you can buy everywhere, and they are collections of comic books, but I never saw the actual pure single issues in English.
Your right about the turtles too... I really need to draw a turtles pin-up
