It's still hard to believe that Mike Wieringo is gone. Comics are different. We have lost one of the guys who was really out there championing a style of art which so many of us love, yet it is rare to see, particularly in mainstream books. Especially when done consistently well the way Mike used to do it.

I took a little time out to draw this sketch in memory of Mike. I had always intended to do a really kick ass Tellos piece and send it to him, and it is really unfortunate that I never got to do it. It's sad that he didn't get to go back to this world he helped create and re-visit these characters which he obviously loved.

I asked MONK if he wanted to collab with me on this tribute to Mike, and he was up for it right away. I love the mood he captured through the colours. I think it describes the way many of us feel about Mikes passing. For me it's a look of sadness mixed with disbelief.

I still plan on doing a kick-ass Tellos piece, and that one I'm gonna do for Mike. It's gonna be a fun piece and I'm hoping he'll be able to see it wherever he may be.
