Description

A repost from my Tumblr that I felt I had to share!

Since I couldn’t get myself to draw lineart for some reason a couple days ago, I found it a good excuse to do a speedpainted muscle study from a photo I saved a long time ago. Original here .

( I can’t find the Tumblr post this photo was properly attached to, and I tried using Tineye and Google Image Search to find it with no luck. If you know how to find which blog this originally came from, please lemme know. I have no idea why I didn't make a note of where it came from in the first place, and I hate not giving credit, especially for an exercise done this close to a photograph...)

It WAS actually supposed to end up as fanart of Toriko, and you can see that version of the painting here , but it ended up looking nicer when I threw my friend’s hair on instead.

Very nice job, I have trouble with back muscles, and this style of coloring.

Thank you kindly! <3 I usually have trouble too, so I'm more than pleased with the results!

The blond hair and orange pants makes me think of Naruto.

Or at least, what I wished he looked like.

But I'm a tard like that.

I actually saw the originals you based it on a number of years ago. IIRC, the guy posted them to bodyspace or the pictures forum on bodybuilding.com. However, not a lot of pictures there end up on Google's reverse search, especially if they're attachments to forum posts, so there'll probably be little luck finding the original (unless you want to search through all the thousands of threads from the last few years).

Anyway, it's a nice job. I think you captured all the essentials, not to mention the paint format works very well considering the original model was pretty smooth rather than stage-competitor ripped. It keeps that soft-lighting look as well.

Thanks for sharing.

...I'd actually pay attention to Naruto if he had a physique like this. << *laugh*

And that's rather interesting! At least that explains better why I had such a time trying to source the image. Best I can do I guess is just have the ref image there for people to see, and link it appropriately if I ever end up lucky enough to stumble across its origins.

In any case, thank you very much for your kind comment. >//< That smoothness was part of the reason I used that photo in particular, and I'm happy to know my attempts were successful~

Yeah I know what you mean. There's no reason he shouldn't look like that by now, but I guess Kishi loves his bishies. Fortunately, there's the wonderful world of fanart to correct that little nuisance.

And I suppose it's a good enough setup. I've never quite gotten the sourcing obsession, though if you're really desperate there's always those fitness/muscle-fan forums where you can ask if anybody knows. There's usually somebody who can identify anybody.

Anyway, your attempts were most definitely successful. It was a good match between subject and style. You ought to give a few more of these a try.

*laughs* I hate to say it, but with that tight body, and those orange pants, he reminds me a little of Borderlands psychos
