Description This is a doodle I started for myself a few weeks ago, as an experiment and a stress relief to pick at in-between commissions and homework. Ever since I discovered the Marker tool in SAI, it's become my go-to tool for doodles~ I love the thick, soft quality of my lines when I use it, compared to the harsh chicken scratch that my art becomes when I use the Pen tool.

Two best friends, Tonta (right) and Rustu (left), share a bit of conversation as they take a stroll through the tunnels of the Cauldron.

------

People familiar with my personal characters will immediately recognize Tonta, though will likely notice something different about him... The changes in his design are synonymous with a very important change in one of my oldest personal projects: my Zelda fanfiction, Bridges of Light.

In the last couple of years, it has occurred to me that while I called my characters Gorons, their physical and cultural resemblance to the Zelda species was arguably... minimal. I've never drawn Gorons in a style that really looked properly like Gorons, as they always had features and proportions that were far too human, yet I've always called them Gorons despite. Not only that, but I found that the culture that I had attached to them and developed for years had transformed into something far greater than I had ever intended for something as limited as a fanfiction. It felt wrong to merely leave it attached to an existing property, and possibly restrict plot and character growth for the sake of retaining what little Zelda canon I had within my story. So, I've decided that Bridges of Light is no longer a fanfiction. I'm currently in the process of taking the core plot and characters, and transferring them over to my original world of Ahnurth. A lot of plot revision is required, of course, but I feel like my story already has a lot more room to become something truly mine this way, and I hope that others will find these changes as favourable as I have! I'll be drawing actual Gorons in a more traditional Zelda style from now on, like those seen in Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess.

TL;DR: My Gorons never really looked or felt like Gorons, therefore they're no longer Gorons!

Tonta and Rustu here are of an Ahnurthian race called the Ounten, a golemic people that consume gems and ores not only to sustain themselves and regenerate their stony skeletons, but also to recycle the used, settled magic within these materials to exhale as energy back into the atmosphere, much like how trees recycle carbon dioxide into oxygen! Their most distinct features are their stony forearm shields, intricate chiseled tattoos, and segmented backrock, which somewhat resembles the scales of a pangolin.

Thanks!
Somehow the gorons are my favorite creatures in The Legend of Zelda series, think of making a paper child goron but not right now. I'm been very busy with some art finals. After that I,ll have all the time in the world to work on my art also learning to work with digital art when I buy a wacome tablet first.

I've always enjoyed the freeing feeling of transplanting fancharacters/fanfiction into the realm of "purely original creation." these guys seem like they're on their way to something awesome.

Oh believe me, I couldn't believe the awesome feeling I got when I first realized how much creative room I obtained with making my Goron lore into something completely my own. I'd resisted the idea for so long, but once the ball started rolling, I wondered why the heck I ever hesitated!

And thank you so much for your compliment. Knowing they're even remotely in the ballpark of possibly being awesome means a lot to hear. <3

I have such a crazy soft spot for rock/golem creatures (ha!), so I'm thrilled I have another to keep my eye on! I have a race of my own, but the poor fellas have been a bit neglected in the last year or so. At least one of us is gonna make some progress with their rock people, and your designs for them are greaaaat. ♥

Well, I really like the new design for Tonta and his pal. And the bit of info ya got on the new Ounten are pretty cool. I'm a lil bummed that technically, your Bridges of Light story is over, but I look forward to the new and improved version.

Also, PUT SOME PANTS ON YOU TWO!!! Seesh!

I'm glad you like the new designs! But yeah, it's sad that Bridges of Light is technically over as a fanfiction. It hardly resembled anything Zelda-ish in the first place, though, considering all the OCs and liberties I took with the canon to develop the story's plot. The only thing I'm really sad I ended up completely discarding in this transition was the involvement with the Sages, as they're something I really couldn't translate into my new story at all.

Though, I still have other Zelda fan stories I may pursue in the future that I haven't made any peep of online before, despite wanting to keep focus on developing my original material for a while.

...Also, they'd have to find pants that would fit over those spiky kneecaps first! xD

Yeah. That was something I was thinking about. But I still support ya all the way with this.

XD Hey, just do what's fun for u. If ur enjoying it, I'm sure it'll come out better. Maybe. Possibly.

XDD alright. Also, I'm not sure there's a pair that comes in Tonta's size. *Pokes his belly* Might wanna calm down on the copper there pal. It's going right to your hips.

... I'm really tempting fate here, aren't I?
