Description
The new year of 2022 is nearly upon us, and it has been 2 months since the death of Barry Allen, who was the superhero known as The Flash. The heroes of Earth mourned their ally, and soon normalcy returned. In the city of New York, Christmas shopping was underway for the people, including one Clark Kent, a university student who was secretly Superman, the mightiest of Earth’s heroes. With him was his girlfriend Lois Lane and their friend Jimmy Olsen, and so were large stacks of boxes in Clark’s and Jimmy’s arms. As they were traveling back to Jimmy’s car to finish up their mall excursion, the screech of car tires was picked up by all of them, and then they saw a speeding car with gunfire emanating from it, soon enough seen pursued by a police car. Immediately offloading his stack into Jimmy’s car, Clark changed into Superman (his double life known to Lois and Jimmy) and flew off after the police chase. The criminals in the speeding car fired at both the cops and the flying Superman, even tossing a bomb full of a gas called Krypton (Superman’s weakness) at our hero. Supes was stymied for a while, but then shook it off and caught the criminals’ car, disabling it with a blast of ice breath to the rear axle. One of the criminals escaped and ran into an alley, seizing a hooded homeless woman and holding a gun to her head. When Superman saw this, he super-sped at the criminal to take the gun before he fired. Superman grabbed the gun, but the bullet slipped through his fingers and injured the woman, though not killing her, with a strike to the temple. Superman pushed the criminal to the side so he could be arrested by the police, but he then saw the injured woman’s face and recognized her. He flew her to the nearest hospital ER, and the doctors on call took her in. Soon enough, after the criminals (revealed to be working for a new criminal organization called “The Intergang”) were dealt with, Superman changed back to Clark and reconnected with Lois and Jimmy. This is where Clark tells him he recognized the woman who was shot, and they need to see her at the hospital. When she was stable and resting in a hospital bed, unconscious, Clark was let in, claiming to know her identity. Siobhan McDougal was the first-born daughter of an Irish immigrant family that transplanted from Ireland to Overland Park, Kansas, which was Clark’s old hometown. When Clark was a child (when his now-deceased father John Kent was the first Superman), he and his siblings were friends with Siobhan and her younger brother Tom, and she was Clark’s first crush. However, before the death of Martha Kent, Clark’s mother and John’s wife, the McDougals moved back to Ireland, and he has not seen Siobhan and Tom since then. Clark told them that he wants to be there if she wakes up but asked Lois and Jimmy to be there in his stead if something Superman-related came up. Lois and Jimmy agreed. A few days later, Lois and Jimmy were at the hospital to visit Siobhan, having given the doctors their contact details, and she awoke with a startle to two strangers in her room. Lois told them that they were friends of her old childhood friend Clark Kent, and that he wants to be there as she recovered, but he was busy. Meanwhile, farther into the city and safely away from the hospital, thunderous punches were heard as the people scattered and ran for cover. Superman was battling Bizarro, a berserk Ilnolman-human hybrid that used to be Dru-Zod, Clark’s father’s former friend from their planet of origin. Clark tried to reason with Bizarro but knew that he was being manipulated by an outside force, as he was guarding a team of bank robbers that work for the Intergang. Superman eventually bested Bizarro, but the monstrous man used his power to blow up a sewer line to cover Intergang’s escape. After Superman helped clean up the mess, he managed to change back to Clark, and he went to the hospital. Reuniting with Siobhan, who was still in her hospital room with Lois and Jimmy, she gave Clark the rundown on what had happened to her. When she and her family moved back to Ireland, it was because their father Garrett had received a huge inheritance from his own father, the late patriarch of their clan, and it included their ancestral castle. However, several poor investments ruined their family, and Garrett was soon sent to a federal prison for fraud. Tom disappeared, and Siobhan had to move back to America with whatever money she had left to her name. She soon lost it all and was forced to live on the streets in poverty, taking on various odd jobs to get a daily allowance; the latest she had been involved with was undergoing medical testing. Sympathizing with her, Lois agreed to allow Siobhan to stay with her in her apartment until she can get back on her feet. A day later, Siobhan, now in cleaner clothing and feeling better from her hospital stay, was out with Lois at a café, trading funny stories about their respective relationships with Clark. Meanwhile, Jimmy was at his day job, and Clark (who Siobhan still doesn’t yet know is Superman), was out on patrol as his superhero identity. However, coffee with Lois was cut short when she saw a non-descript van pulled up by the café and Siobhan made eye contact with the driver. She told Lois she wasn’t feeling well and decided she would walk back to the apartment and get some fresh air. Lois was suspicious, and secretly followed her as she got into the aforementioned van. Lois her journalist instincts take over as she followed the van in her own car to a building near the docks. She spied on Siobhan being escorted into the building and Lois managed to sneak in after them. Inside she found a laboratory, manned various doctors and armed goons, and she found a capsule containing Bizarro in cryogenic stasis. Lois realized she was in a facility controlled by the Intergang! Meanwhile, in the office of Whisper A’Daire, one of the leaders of the Intergang, Siobhan was brought to her by her minions. Whisper told her that their contract has yet to be completed, and if Siobhan wants the money she needs, they need to perform some final tests on her. Lois, meanwhile, found notes on Bizarro’s augmented genetics and how the Intergang doctors are trying to replicate it successfully, without the genetic and psychological breakdowns he’s suffered, using genetics secretly purloined from the current Superman. Back with Siobhan, she was strapped to a gurney and, once more, subjected to the genetic tampering experiments that she was paid to be a test subject for, the doctors mentioning superhumanly-increased bone density that she has (which allowed her to survive the bullet grazing her skull). Lois, hiding from the goons, called Clark and told him the address for the building she was in, and that Siobhan is trapped here, as well. As Superman, Clark flew to the address, but the lab’s air space perimeter alarm was tripped, and the doctors unfroze Bizarro to attack our hero. Whisper A’Daire demanded that her minions hurry and complete the ‘final test’ on Siobhan. In a dark room, Siobhan’s eyes were forced open as mechanical arms manipulated an ancient-looking book open. She tried to look away, but electrical diodes applied to her head forced her to read the opened book… Superman broke through the walls of the building after knocking out Bizarro. The Intergang goons fought Superman with Krypton gas grenades, but he managed to elude their projectiles, disable their cannons, and then he wrapped them up in loose chains. He confronted Whisper A’Daire, who was next to the doors leading to one of the experiment chambers, holding the ancient tome. Superman demanded she surrender, but the crime baroness would not comply, opening the doors. Out stepped Siobhan, but now pale, emaciated, with black markings upon her skin, and with pitch-black eyes. Superman was aghast, and the woman who used to be Siobhan McDougal unleashed a deadly scream at him that sent him flying! Whisper A’Daire called her “Silver Banshee” and ordered her to kill Superman. Her magic shriek made her a match for Superman, compounded by her enhanced physiology, thanks to the experiments. Whisper A’Daire, still holding the book called “The Bible of Crime”, escaped in the chaos of the battle, and Bizarro once again vanished. Superman was on the cusp of getting killed by the Silver Banshee, until he did something risky… he undid his genetic cloak and revealed his true identity to her. Siobhan held herself back, fighting against the darkness she was indoctrinated with. She defeated the darkness within, and reverted to her human self, giving Clark a hug. In the aftermath, the defeated Intergang thugs were arrested by the NYPD and Siobhan was brought to an advanced hospital have her genetic tampering reversed and, hopefully, help her better suppress the ‘Silver Banshee’ persona. Superman knew that the Silver Banshee’s powers were magic in nature, so he asked for consultation from the Shadowpact, a magic team of heroes, who told him of the Bible of Crime and agreed to help Siobhan however they can. As for Whisper A’Daire, she was approached by an agent of another burgeoning criminal organization. They knew that the Intergang had stolen a sample of the genetics of the current Superman and are willing to pay handsomely for it…
Notes:
* Bizarro was previously being controlled by The Doomed, Lex Luthor’s team of villains, but escaped the custody of ARGUS after they were defeated but before being captured by the Intergang.
*The microheroes I used to make Silver Banshee belong to "The-Quester".
* Siobhan is still aware that Clark is Superman but is keeping it to herself.
* The “Bible of Crime” (which is one of its many names) was created millennia ago as the book of worship for The Dark Side, the sorcerers who previously ruled the Earth as evil gods. The Bible of Crime featured in this story is the last known copy of it in existence. It is a magic tome that brainwashes the reader to give into a powerful inner darkness. It is divided into five “Books of Blood”.
** The first Book, the Book of Lilith, is what Siobhan was forced to read. It imbued Siobhan with ‘the death knell’, which manifests as her magic super-sonic scream. Whisper A’Daire knew that Siobhan would acquire this power, as she had tested it on others before (whom all spontaneously died after), which is why she called Siobhan ‘Silver Banshee’.
*** The Bible of Crime kills those who read it and do not possess the strength to withstand it’s power, hence why the Intergang experimented on Siobhan with Superman’s genetics before exposing her to the book.
