Prove to me
I'm not gonna die alone
Put your arm 'round my collar bone
Open the door...

You can't keep running out
Kicking yourself off the bed
Kicking yourself in the head
Because you're kicking me too...

So, Hetta and Phaethon co-sleeping is completely a thing, and it's a surprise that it's taken me this long to draw it. I think this scene is a pretty typical one, with Phaethon not sleeping, not yet, just making sure Hetta's not having any horrible fucking nightmares.

After the labyrinth, they both do have horrible flashbacks and nightmares, but it's worse for Hetta, considering how roughly she treated herself while she was in there. For the first week of travel, she didn't trust Phaethon enough to sleep, or even enough to turn her back to him.

But after a long stretch spent in complete darkness, and a fight with some horrible dog creatures, she finally collapsed, much to her chagrin. Phaethon didn't hurt her, and instead, he promised her he'd make sure she slept safe from then on. Even after the labyrinth, when they're safe in Phaethon's Knossian palace, she doesn't sleep unless he's around and keeping her safe. He's never broken that promise yet; he's there, every time she needs him to be (which is all of the times)

That's not to say this comes without problems. Hetta absolutely hates trusting anyone, up to and including Phaethon, despite him being the one person who she's shared the experience of the labyrinth with. She frequently kicks herself off the bed by refusing to sleep for days at a time because she just...can't trust anyone that much, after her past. Trust is a big thing, with these two. Phaethon understands, absolutely, but I won't say he's not hurt by it. But here, they're getting along as well as a fourteen year old and her adoptive father can, which is...grudgingly well. Phaethon is just happy that she's letting him keep his word, I think.
