This is just stunning, you must be so proud of your work. Wish I'd had the chance to buy one--though I doubt I could have afforded it anyway.

I'll be making smaller scale figures in the future. Maybe 8". I'm beginning to like that scale a lot. So that should be cheaper

Yeah, if you make them we'll see if I can afford one or not. XD I'm betting on "not".

I'm going to try to keep it under $75. Of course this is all speculation... I have to actually make it first

This is amazing work. I'd love to get into this sort of thing. I've been watchin this guy's work for a while [link] his megaman zero figures are awesome too! I do have a question or 2, what did you use for the joints/articulation did you hand craft those as well?
and as for tools what did you use for creating the detail? (sorry if I'm asking for too much xD )
really nice work, truly amazing. *favorite'ing this!*

Thank you

The link doesn't work

Yes I did make my own joints. There is a mini tutorial here: (post #46)

[link]

As for tools, I use various metal Dental Picks/Probes for the clay. After molding and casting, I use a Rotary Tool (Dremel) for sanding, drilling, and cutting.

Oh my god me too!!! I would have preferred Retro again make the next Metroid... but I guess Team Ninja is pretty good too. At least we know there will be lots more action.

If you're after Retro Studio games never fear, they are hard at work on other titles.
They are just taking a break from Metroid, and are kinda going to say "We can do more then just awesome Metroid titles".

Personally, I'd like to see an F-Zero on Wii. That would be cool with me.

Godly-Effect In reply to red3183 [2009-06-21 16:22:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, F-Zero or a Metroid that comes after Fusion.
Any of those two would be good. New Zelda would be due too... Haven't had one made for the Wii yet.
Before you say TP, no, that was made for GC and ported to Wii with updated controls.

Hell yeah, so far the only thing we have is a fairy/spirit like thing that some think is the Master Sword standing behind Link who doesn't have any sword.

djdna In reply to red3183 [2009-06-10 23:54:21 +0000 UTC]

well tbh, im all up for a change and i like the old skool side scrolling metroids so im hoping they throw some of that into it... well see ill take any metroid going tho really heh

the trilogy is big news for me tho, i liked the first 2 prime games but gave up because i just hated the controls and lack of aiming etc... so i think the wii versions will give me a chance to play through them fully this time (if i can find time that is)

red3183 In reply to djdna [2009-06-11 01:12:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I'm cool with Team Ninja making it. I loved Ninja Gaiden (not #2 though) so I'm sure I'll like what they come up with. Plus it's Metroid. So it's an automatic win.

I have to buy the Trilogy also, even though I have all the games already. The added Wii controls make it a must buy.

Hey, you never know. My Samus Action figure was my first attempt at sculpting. It turned out to be a year long project though. I had to take it all the way.

Quasartist2 In reply to red3183 [2009-05-26 22:17:57 +0000 UTC]

Wow! Really? Cool. Hearing that it's your first raises my confidence, but the year long part cuts it back down. I've got a short attention span so i'll have to do something WAAAAAAAAAAY easier to start off with.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

red3183 In reply to Quasartist2 [2009-05-26 22:58:25 +0000 UTC]

It only took me a year cause I had to learn everything... sculpting, mold making, and casting. Plus all the trial and error. You just have to have determination, and I was determined to make a Samus action figure.

Quasartist2 In reply to red3183 [2009-05-27 02:16:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, at least if I try to make my own Samus figure, i'll have a referance picture to look at!
Oh,btw, where do you get your supplies?

All my molding and casting supplies came from Smooth-On.

Clay came from Sculpt.com

On average... about $500 each. Killin... not really. The time and effort put into each one... I should have sold them for more.

Your sculpting skills are awesome. The fact that you actually put articulation into your figures is so awsome and inspiring. Makes me want to try and sculpt something.

Yeah man Im a huge toy collector and thats the one thing I look for so many times. I wont buy figures sometimes based on the sculpt, so Im always complaining "such a great figure only if the sculpt was better". So that alone makes me want to sculpt my own stuff. Seeing your stuff really put some thoughts in my head.

Im sure you've been doing it for a long time but as I said really inspiring to me. I have to ask, I noticed you sculpt with plastiline, Ive talked to others who use sculpey. Now do you use the plastiline because your make molds and cast them. Now Ive messed with sculpting before but, I guess for a beginner like me what would you suggest to start with. Im not worried about articulation, just a basic figure...probably more along the lines of a mcfarlane/neca small statue type. One more thing, dont mean to kill your time here, but do you do it in sections...arms first hands, legs, feet and head or is it all just done at the same time.
