do you possibly have a tutorial? Not to make this exact action figure, but like a generic figurine?
It would be pretty neat if you did, since a lot of us don't have much money...either way, this is soooo awesome,

Sorry I don't have a tutorial. Samus was my first project and I didn't think about documenting it along the way. I may do that for the next figure, Light Suit Samus. Send me a note, so I can remember, and I'll give you a few links to get you started.

I'd actually be very interested in a tutorial too, especially for something with joints!
Is there any way I could get a look at those links? 8D

Hey no problem, ur busy sculpting your masterpieces. Anyway, you sculpt the parts you want to make, (such as Samus's head)then use the silicone to make a mold of it, then pour in the resin. Ok I think I got it. How long did it take to make one Samus? Is it hard to do? Is the most difficult sculpting the originals? Thanks for the links!

It took me close to 300 hours to make my first Samus... but that was because I was still learning how to make molds and such.
I think the hardest part was trying to design the joints, incorporating them into the figure, and having it still look good.
I ran into little problems all the way through... so if you run into problems, just let me know and I'll try to help.

OK. I have just one more question before I start. How expensive was it to make just one? I only need to buy all the material (including tools and other equipment)to make one. How much money am I looking to drop for this? lol If you could give me a list of the materials (such as the brand and type of castilene, resin and silicone and including tools) that would be great.
Thanks again for all your help!

Send me a Note about this and I'll get back to you. It will take me a while to collect all the info.
A rough estimate for Materials is around $300. Extra tools and equipment that I had to buy was around $200. I already had a lot of tools too that would have added up to be around $400. Of course there are cheaper alternatives... but I tend to buy the more expensive ones for the quality.

yay, that sounds cool, =^.^=
but I was thinking more along the lines of a base figurine, one that multiple sets of clothes could be made for...either way, I so hope so, :3

really cool do you free lance or just sell your works online?

I do commissions. Not sure if that is different from free lancing. I usually sell my stuff on ebay or just commissions through email. Send me a note if you are interested.

Whoa-hooooo, I just noticed the tubing in the knee joints! That's a REALLY nice touch!

red3183 In reply to DexAntares [2008-11-17 08:34:06 +0000 UTC]
Actually the knees and elbows are resin. The rubber tubbing stuff is only on the Neck, Shoulders, Hips, and Ankles.

Ahhh... still a VERY nice touch. Is it meant to hide the articulation joints? I'm still blown away by how poseable a figure this is. How stable are the joints, anyway? Can the figure handle some moderate play?

red3183 In reply to DexAntares [2008-11-17 08:43:13 +0000 UTC]
Yes the rubber was meant to hide the joints. I figured it was perfect since She really does have rubber or what ever at those points.
The joints are pretty stable. Um... probably not great for playing, just posing. 12" is pretty big for an action figure. Pretty hard to play with it anyway. I'm probably going to make a smaller version... for "Play"

Larger scale means a bigger canvas, which means more detail. Still, I like the idea of a smaller one, too. Maybe less detail, but more stability.

Yeah, the 12" one is really top heavy. Just look at those shoulders.

I love Samus. I grew up with her in my family cause my brother is obsessed with her and well can't blame him. Metroid is a kick ass game series. GREAT WORK!
