Ah, the blunt honesty of children. She's right, though. Celestia's supposed to be a pony, but she's about 16 hh. They gave us an 8-foot candy cane next to two foals once, and from that I figured out that the ponies of Equestria do indeed top out at 14 hh, yet Celestia is significantly taller than Big MacIntosh, who is otherwise the tallest pony on the show.

This year, she only grew a couple inches at most so Hasbro can sell a "Princess Twilight Sparkle" toy that just combines the standard unicorn head and pegasus body. Next year, she'll have a growth spurt, so Hasbro can sell a "Princess Twilight Sparkle" toy that is a purple reuse of the alicorn toy.
And no, I'm not being cynical, per se, but it would allow them to sell two more toys of Twily.

The joke for THIS comic is that when AJ was just a filly, she called out Celestia on being much bigger than everyone else. Her blatant, thoughtless tone/volume made it really insensitive.
It's childhood honesty, except Applejack here is the ELEMENT of Honesty.
