Description
This is Iapis, Emperor of Ilion, and Iulius' elder twin brother. He is a healer first and foremost, and then a military strategist, and then a politician. Said to be favored by Apollo (who had always been a guardian of Ilion) Iapis has a sharp eye and is also an excellent archer. Iapis inherited the throne early in his life when his father was killed in battle, and having participated and fought in the same war that killed his father, Iapis was very empathetic to the suffering of people, and dedicated himself to treating wounds and sickness after each battle. Much to the chagrin of the generals who were loyal to his father, once Iapis was crowned, he pushed for a non-expansionist rule that was very different from his father's. His enemies challenged his reign by claiming that he was a weak and cowardly ruler. Many also tried to suck up to Iulius to get him to rebel against and replace his brother as king and emperor.Thankfully, two things happened that secured Iapis' reign. The first event was Iulius realized what was happening and was outraged. Iulius was a man of honor and had always respected his twin, believing his twin was noble for directly saving lives. When he knew his brother was being insulted, and he charged into the streets, threatening to kill anyone who dared utter thoughts of treason. News of this spread, and as Iulius was not only high ranking in social status but had also established himself as a powerful military figure, him voicing his support for his brother's reign very quickly made voices of dissent die down. The second event was, a plague spread from Achaea into Ilion. During this plague, Iapis housed the sick in his own palace away from normal citizens, and tended to them personally. Many nobles followed his example to get on his good side. Once the plague was over, he then pushed to improved infrastructure in his nation to provide clean water and sanitation. The ordinary people saw that Iapis was a magnanimous ruler with their own eyes, and praised him greatly, forgetting their past discontent. These two events combined left Iapis' political enemies unable to say or do anything against him openly. And in the dark, his enemies' hands were left even more tied, because Iapis was constantly protected by servants and soldiers who were fully loyal to him.
Personality-wise, Iapis is also a stoic man much like his brother, but where his brother hides his thoughts behind a frown, he hides his thoughts behind a smile. He is mostly peaceful and cautious, but even if he may be a good emperor and has a good heart, you should not trust him easily. The tougher decisions that people of power make always twist them in some way.
