diedhorribledeaths In reply to RedBlooper [2013-04-03 19:50:23 +0000 UTC]

I'll say "thefts" will have a hard time to "stole" your stuff, RedBlooper. I mean, the hole point of "steal" art is- Ah, now i get what meant Dirk. But do you really care if someone make some t-shirts with your stuff? I mean, that ever reach anywhere? And people who claims to be the author don't worth the talk, really... Oh well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Themrock In reply to diedhorribledeaths [2013-04-04 22:04:17 +0000 UTC]

Does not matter if they are worth it, it's never nice to see it and feel 'betrayed'. And David's work has the right amount of quality already to get stolen. The bigger the piece the easier it is to vectorize it in illustrator.

Nobody said they he must put a giant ugly watermark on his drawings or make them unwatchable tiny.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

diedhorribledeaths In reply to Themrock [2013-04-05 05:42:54 +0000 UTC]

What i was going to say in my first sentence was that RedBlooper's art is too much recognizable to anyone to "stole" it. I stopped saying that because obviously we have very different points of view on the matter, and that was not what you were advising to David. So yeah, the bigger the piece the easier to trace it, but in the end, any size can be traced and therefore "stolen"... That's why i said the difference was not that important (i wasn't thinking of watermarks or unwatchable sizes, really)

I fully understand your motives and know you talk from experience Dirk, i just believe in something else.
...In this concretely, if you are curious (autoquote incoming):

"My art is mine, and there is no way anybody can change that. Going deeper in the matter, if someone starts to make shitty t-shirts or something with ripoffs of my work, and i find it out, i'll probably let him use my unaltered artworks or even draw some original designs for him to print. Then, if he wants to, it would be nice to have some of them, like a memento (or having the ones i like the most, or...)

That's the way i think. And moreover: The reason behind people fighting against "art theft" is no other than the possibility of not making money from it. When a piece of art is infinite, it can not be "stolen" (well, if you completely destroy it, you would "stole it from being seeing"... but we are not talking about that, are we?)... and then what is art theft, smart ass?, you could say... "Copyright Infringement". And copyright is an international law made to prevent you from "losing" money. Well Well, when i say "you", i should be saying "big ass companies". It's a egoistic law made to satisfy egoistic people who consider art just a """possession"""... not a creation. For me, my characters and stories are like children. My children. And like a good father, i want the best for them. What is "the best" for art? Being seen. And if it's possible, being seen in the best way available.

Another form of "art theft" is someone claiming being the author of your art. That one is even easier. You remember what i said before? My art is mine, and there is no way anybody can change that. If someone try to pretend my art is his/hers art, i'll be happy. Actually, there is a person who consider my art good enough to pretend is his/hers... And well, that kind of people are often kids or sad individuals. Nothing dangerous. Then, what's the problem? (ignoring the identity issues) Again, the problem is the same: "the possibility of not making money from it"... Wait, these kids and individuals can possibly make money form it? More like no. And then what's the problem? (ignoring the identity issues): A possibility. And you know what? A possibility is not a crime. Having the possibility of stole doesn't make you a theft. Having the possibility of kill doesn't make you a killer..."

Themrock In reply to diedhorribledeaths [2013-04-05 18:40:53 +0000 UTC]

Tl;Tr but just some additions and I am too tired to talk about it, when there is so much naivity in the text.
Its not everything about the evil money system or your naive view on the subject.

It's a different one, David is a young and pretty friendly artist right now and the more he gets confronted with it, the more he may lose the fun in it. Does not matter how strong his philosphy is comparable to yours.
And David is not that famous worldwide. Even right now not that much. There are not always guys showing the traced/stolen/recolored/whatever art on a internet platform. And there is not always a friend who recognizes it.

I was like him and had equal thoughts like you, but you need a healthy sense for being careful and open minded. And that is all i wanted to tell him.

The other reason was.... : The drawing gets not shown properly, because deviantart sucks in compressing the size of the drawing correct in the preview. And the original size is too big for my screen.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

diedhorribledeaths In reply to Themrock [2013-04-06 00:25:51 +0000 UTC]

Naive or not, that's what i believe in heh.
But what i was saying is that the money is the origin of the whole art thievery thing, and taking that in account is very important.

Confronted? What do you mean?
And i know. I was referring to "true" robbery (or a very serious case), like high or partial authorship theft and/or real money making (i wrote true in quotation marks because that's how i subjectively see it~)

Advising is nice. I just thought it wasn't that necessary, and gave my opinion.

Hehe, the hidden motive~~!
Oh, and sorry, i should have put the autoquote in a lower size >xT
