Description Bet you didn't know that did you?

Don't think your gun is safe from confiscation just because the action has to be manually worked to cycle a round; because it isn't. The fanatic gun-control nuts won't stop until every gun has been confiscated and destroyed.

Ah the Mosin Nagant, the gun that can take a beating, kicks like a mule and the bolt needs a 2x4 sometimes to work, but by god, they are great guns.

They are talking about Simo Häyhä, from Finland, during the Soviet invasion of 1940.  Look up "Winter War."  In addition to the 505 confirmed sniper rifle kills, he also had an alleged 200+ kills with submachine guns, and 30+ with knives.

Edit: Hence the Mosin-Nagant rifle in the picture.  It was the service rifle of Finland at the time.

The Irish revolutionaries were armed with some of these guns during the Easter 1916 Rising and held out for over a week against a number of heavily armed British regiments, numerous heavy artillery and H.M.S Helga a large gunboat that had been sailed up the river Liffey and into the heart of Dublin city.  A bit over 5 years later these badly armed farmers sons forced the British Empire govt. to the negotiating table.

You might wan't to change that count.
Official Finnish Defence Force documents grant him only 219 rifle kills as of 16 February 1940. An eyewitness (A. J. Rantamaa) claims a bit higher number of 259 as on the day he was wounded in.
Though one has to remember that Simo Häyhä spent only 83 days on the front therefore making it still a remarkable achievement.

The highly controversial 500+ count is the alleged number of enemies shot, not necessarily killed.
Also the 500+ count includes some 200+ debatable SMG/LMG kills.

Its a concern of mine too I have a WW2 Arisaka type 99 bolt action rifle, but its the only rifle I own. because of the sandyhook school shooting, now they are trying to bring back the clinton crime bill as the 2013 obama ban on "assault" weapons, meaning all semi automatic rifles from M1 garands to AR15s and AKs

The Mosin Nagant 91/30, the choice of the best snipers in history Simo Hayha and Vassili Zaitsev. No doubt they'd eventually call for it to be banned...

Or to be more precise Häyhä used the M/28. Practically an copy of Mosin Nagant with slightly different sights and barrel and they were made by the Civil Guard Gun- and Machiningworks Ltd known today as Sako.

Btw an upgraded version of Mosin Nagant (7.62 TKIV 85) is still used by the FDF.

didn't he also not use the pu scope?

Safor In reply to mkmaster365 [2013-06-06 12:53:04 +0000 UTC]

Nope. You have to remember that people didn't have much ballistic protection in those days and skilled snipers still hit human sized targets at 600 meters with the same rifle type.

Also scopes weren't that advanced in 1939 having certain flaws and using a weapon similar to the standard battle rifle it was difficult for enemy snipers to identify Häyhä from regular troops.

This MUST be stressed now more than ever. The gun prohibitionists will NEVER BE SATISFIED until civilian gun ownership is totally wiped out.

100-round magazine for AR-15? I'm not all that thrilled with them (especially as we've seen that THANKFULLY they're not very reliable - the "Joker's" apparently jammed on him). But, "they" won't be any happier at all with 50 rounds, 30, 20, 10, 5.....give the antis an inch and they'll take a mile!

You're in the bullet's way, the white death's prey, say goodbye!

Words by Sabaton, in their song White Death. Besides, if a bolt action .22 long rifle can "save my life", I think that should be respected (although the feat was only in fiction as far as I know)...AND targeted by government.

Simo Hayha was from Nazi-Occupied Finland. He was defending his home from invading Soviets crossing Finland to get to Germany. He killed over 500 using that rifle and no scope.

Veritas-Aequitas-90 In reply to Cromotose [2013-03-03 04:29:02 +0000 UTC]

Actually, no. He was from Finland, but it wasn't Nazi occupied. Russia invaded Finland to secure land to proctect Leningrad. The Fins didn't like the idea, so they kicked them out by force. Although the Winter War between Finland and Russia took place during WWII, it did not involve the Nazis or any Axis power. A small force of Fins did what the entire German military couldn't, they beat the Ruskies.

Yeah I had my facts a little off, thanks for the info.

Ya know, I always wondered who'd win in a fight between Simo Hayha and Vassilli Zeitsev.

Veritas-Aequitas-90 In reply to Cromotose [2013-03-11 02:30:17 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, thats a tough one. Hayha has the higher kill rate and he lived through being shot in the face, but Zeitsev was a legendary shot and a great counter sniper.

I'm going to lean toward Zeitsev, only because he used a scope which would allow him greater stand off distance. Hayah used iron sights because he felt a scope made him stick his head out too much. Lets say 100-300 yards Hayah
