Thank you! It's not perfect, but merging this with frame by frame animation might do the trick.

That could be a cool approach. I'm not sure I've seen anyone do something like that before (though granted I'm not exactly an animation expert ).

Oh yeah, it is! I am trying to find the best way to make the animations, it needs to look good, easy to make and animate. The game will have a lot of this. A playable character should have some 12-15 sequences of animation(walking, jumping, falling, punching). And each sequence would have 12 frames(walking) to 3(weak punch). Easily, every playable character would have some 150 frames. And we didn't mentioned the enemies and backgrounds yet,

I used Flash. I drew the parts in different layers and used motion tween to animate them. It's simple but effective. Can be improved though, you can change these parts to give more movement, like the hair for example. But I guess something made frame by frame would look much better in the end.

I think its called animate CC now. And it uses another language. I suggest you try the last version.
