I was wasting some time on TV, again. This pic is based in the masterpiece 'the Blob' , 1988 version.The original one, with Steve Mcqueen, is pretty good too but I prefer that one, the special effects are revolting in the good way!! The sink scene is terrible, until today I feel some hesitancy to clean drain holes.
I like CGI's but they are destroying the movies. I like real special effects, with real explosions, grape juice(blood) and animatronics.

CGI is best when its a marriage between itself and practical effects, like in Jurassic Park, the Raining T-Rex Paddock scene is attestment to this, the T-Rex was flawlessly combined with CGI and animatronics... to this day, it was the most convincing CGI I ever saw in a movie.

I agree 100% with you. It's the best CGI sequences I ever seen. Everything was in the place, the lights, the animations, the weight of the dinossaurs stomping the ground.
A complete opposite is the transformers movies. Now, I am a big fan of transformers and I completely hate all the three movies. Apart from the abysmal robot designs(WHY? WHY?), The robots doesn't looks real at all, I mean, the robots body should keep with the same appearence of the vehicle form, with the windshields there, the wheels there, the doors there, the wings, etc. BUT NO. It's a design opinnion, but it damages the reality feel of CGI, because the viewer should think "Oh, the car is walking with two legs?", Not just "it's a robot. Oh.".
About the CGI, it's just a shapeless mixture of steel "floating" around on screen. And gets worse when they fights! Why they jumps so much? When they fall in the ground most of the time isn't a single crack in there. The movements should be slower(no slow-motion for god sakes) and powerful. I got pissed with the movies.

We all love real special effects...CGI's been a problem for a long while but you know what Hollywood says: "they can do anything"...yeah but it doesn't make it believable.

Yeah, some movies looks like video games or even worse. I am not saying the games have bad CGI, but you know, there is a feeling in the air and it's not good for a movies. For example, Clash of titans was horrible in my opinnion because the regular CGI and "brilliant" main actor.

I FELL THE SAME WAY TO ABOUT DRAIN HOLES!!!! ahem Yes that moive left a mark a big one I: never want to wash dishes at night or go near anything with a opend way to swear and that phone booth scence and the moive theater one.

I totally agree with you. Hollywood needs to take a step back and start using 'real' special effects more often instead of taking the easy way out with CGI.

The problem it's just that, they use CGI for a car crash for example, or just a helicopter shot! They can afford that!

I have not seen the entire movie but have seen the drain scene *_*, I love the effects in the 1982 "the thing". You should make a cute girl eat the blob and then she goes around absorbing the local gym population to grow more muscles

Or she could would these smaller spoons, a desert spoon. And the blob would run from her while she eats him(or it) little by little, like a huge pudding. Damn, that would be so gross and funny!
