hoho my parents think I'm doing my homework
A contest entry for Chibi-pets 's contest, found here .
I had a lot of fun drawing this cutie! She's such an adorable OC. You should totally check out Chibi-pets 's page, too. She makes amazing plushies.
BTW don't zoom in too much, you'll see all the mistakes I made XD
Anyways, I wrote a little short story, well, more of a passage, to go along with it. So here it is.
It was late, Shooting Star knew that. She gazed up at the shining, fluorescent moon. It was sitting in the sky, full, like a colossal pearl. Her friends' voices called from the beach house, there was a mention about cake, that it would be gone soon, that it was important, but she blocked them out.
"This night sky is more important than some cake," She thought to herself, smiling. She slipped off the patio and walked down the steps to the soft sand.
The beach, usually so crowded with ponies, was completely empty. The waves lapped up upon the shore, and the shimmering water reflected the glittering sky above. "Luna's really outdone herself this time," She thought as she trotted across the wet sand her hooves splashing up bits of water. She gazed up at the sky, at the clouds, at the stars, and lastly, at the moon, which bright over the sea. It was gorgeous. The reflection it cast across the water was equally as stunning. She dipped her long tail into the dark water but brought it back up with a splash, letting out a small burst of laughter. She stopped to watch the droplets rain down on the surface, distorting the reflections. "I've been to the beach countless times," She thought with a small smile. "But still, I just love watching the water like this, it never gets old."
She laughed a little to herself. "If my friends could see me now, they'd think I was crazy," she thought, amused. She glanced back at the beach house, which had, by now, disappeared behind a bend in the beach. "Good thing, too," she added. "I wouldn't really want my friends thinking that." She turned and looked up at the sea cliffs, which loomed, jagged and menacing, yet still beautifully above her. There was a odd glow in the distance, opposite from the beach house. She squinted, trying to get a better view of whatever the source of the light was, but stopped. She'd remembered what it was.
Then she galloped full speed towards the light.
She'd come here before with her special someone a couple summers back. There was a little pigeonhole, a small crevice in the rocks where she had gone with him. She remembered when he had tied up a small green hammock to the lone palm tree standing there, overlooking the sea. She'd fallen asleep there, in that cozily little place. It was day then, the sun shining down with a warm glow, the sea was noisy and there had been a lovely sea breeze that had rustled through her mane. She smiled at the memory.
But now it was night. "Don't look down" She reminded herself, as she climbed the steps up to the niche. That's what he had said as to her then, knowing well of her fear of heights. Thinking of him made her feel a bit better. She climbed the steps, slowly at first, then gaining confidence, she nearly galloped up the last three. The moss under her feet was cool and soft, and the shrubbery rustled in the breeze, breaking the silence.
It was as cozy as she had remembered. The tree, with it's worn sturdy hammock still stood, and somepony had hung up some little paper lanterns since her last visit. The glowing of thousands of fireflies illuminated up the alcove, casting a shifting, warm glow upon the mossy rocks. She climbed carefully onto the hammock, trying her best not to look straight down, but over the sea instead. She hummed a little melody to herself, then stopped, concentrating. The lanterns flickered to life. She let her eyes close, then took up the tune again. Comfortably settled, she sighed contentedly.
"Yes," She thought to herself. "Yes, this is much better than cake"
Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm not the best writer. Give me a break, I haven't written like this in years, it's all persuasive essays and responses to literature these days. I just did this for fun. Creative writing can be pretty stress relieving.
Should I do more of these? Let me know what you think!
Ohmai my hands hurt. I used 53 layers on this, and that's after I did a lot of flattening. I don't even know how long this took, maybe something like 20 hours? I dunno. I experimented with landscape-type elements here a lot. Who knew that drawing rocks was so hard? XD
All in all it was a lot of fun, and I really, really, really hope to win! Chibi-pets 's plushies are amazing and I'm very lucky to get a chance to compete for one.
