CanilimusDiscovered: June 15, 2018
Place of Origin: Unknown
(The following information has been collected by multiple “experts” and may or may not be entirely accurate, nor may they explain every nature of this species.)
Description
Canilimus was discovered by a local Animal Control station after receiving numerous calls from a neighborhood stating that much of the people's foods have gone missing and have strange footprints in their place. When word got out throughout the county, government officials came to remove this creature from the station and into a top secret facility for testing.
The name "canilimus" derives from the latin words "canis" (meaning "dog") and "limus" (meaning "mud" or "slime"), since its body seemed mainly composed of a slime-like substance while taking on similar physical traits of actual canines. Despite this, it also had physical traits that closely resemble those of a reptile, perhaps even a dinosaur, with its long neck and thick tail. They can grow up to 5 feet tall and can weigh up to 150-200 lbs.
Abilities
What makes Canilimus very unique is its ability to change its own form at will. It will transform into any living animal it sees, altering its genetic code to match those of its target, allowing it to grow fur, scales, or other things. It only seems to change into feral animals on its own, however, and its colors do not drastically change with each transformation.
Its genetic flexibility also allows it to fuse with another animal if it so desires, even humans. This further aids its abilities and even alters the host's genetics, transforming them both into one being. Their minds are separate most of the time unless the host is too weak to move or when it is in heat. When separating, though, the host returns to their original state.
A Canilimus can even fuse together with another Canilimus, which causes them to become twice as big and twice as strong, but it is important to note that this depletes their energy faster than if they fused with another creature.
Diet
At first it was thought that since its body is entirely made of some foreign slime, Canilimus had no need to consume food or drink, but studies have concluded that is not the case. These creatures can consume foods equal to 1/3 of their overall body weight at most. The food is then stored in a special stomach where it gradually disintegrates and is converted into energy.
Canilimus are omnivores, so they will eat anything that is given to them, with one exception: rotten foods or salty foods will cause them to vomit a mildly acidic slime and act aggressive for a short period of time.
Personality
Canilimus have been shown to be playful by nature. Sometimes, they can even be pretty mischievous, especially when fusing with another creature. When threatened or attacked, they become very defensive and will often enlarge themselves to look more intimidating. If they create a bond with their host(s), they can devote their loyalty to them and even grant them the freedom to change form while they are fused, making them great companions.
Habitat
To this day, scientists haven’t been able to deduce where these strange, slimy creatures came from nor what exactly created them. Some suggest that they were the result of a laboratory experiment gone wrong, while others suggest that they actually came from an extraterrestrial planet far outside our solar system. Nonetheless, they have been able to get an idea of what habitat(s) they enjoy the most.
Canilimus seem to prefer warm, open spaces containing numerous forms of life, as they are shown to become more active under these conditions. They also prefer places within or near civilization. If they are placed in a very cold climate, such as the Antarctic Circle (-40 C/F), their bodies become more solid and they move much slower; thus, they try to avoid the harsh cold as best they can.
Reproduction
When Canilimus are willing to reproduce, they start feeling restless and more mischievous than normal. During this time, their body temperatures increase and they start to sweat ooze immensely; thus, this phase is known as “the slime heat.”
Canilimus can reproduce in two ways:
They will “play” together until they are ready to fuse together, possibly as part of their own mating ritual. Instead of becoming one being, though, they will remain in a slime-like state and create a large, rotating blob of slime. They will stay like this for about 10 minutes before separating into their original forms.
If fused with a pair of hosts, they will suddenly take control of the body and undergo sexual intercourse with each other just like any other animal. Fortunately, this process does not affect the hosts, and they will often forget about it once they are released.
A female Canilimus is able to have 3 or 4 offspring at a time and can mate with a male up to twice a year. It is unknown how many offspring she can have in a lifetime.
Known Canilimus
So far there are only three known Canilimus that exist on Earth, two of which were brought to the secret facility mentioned above and one of which was their only surviving offspring. They all managed to escape, but somewhere along the way, they somehow became separated. The offspring was later found by the Dino ROAR Patrol when they heard about a possible “dinosaur” sighting, and it quickly bonded with the team members, earning the name “Goopey.”
