TRAITS: Varun is a big boned, thick skinned, heavy furred Shinlai. The way he snarls is similar to that of a large cats. He has two green eyes that have pretty good vision. He likes colder climates, because of all his fur and feathers and hair. Being in the heat makes him grumpy.
His mask is painted with a yellowy clay and crushed water plants. He has a thick horn set. Varun is a large Shinlai. Both his parents had a pretty good amount of mass, being tundra creatures. When underwater, he makes a funny face to close his nostrils so water doesn't get in them. He can hold his breath for around 15 minutes, so it makes it easier for him to fish. He has webbed paws so he can go faster in the water. His thick tail is like a rudder, steering him in the direction he wants to go. His legs are short but strong. He isn't a good sprinter, but can easily run long distances, if needed. He has an amazing amount of stamina. His jaws are twice as powerful as a smaller Shinlai, having naturally large bones. When fighting, Varun bashes with his large paws first, then attacks with his teeth. If all else fails, he guts you with his horns.
As a pup, he didn't get any of his coloring until he was around 11 or so. It was part of his natural defense. Camouflage!

PERSONALITY: Varun isn't one you want to have a conversation with. He's extremely quiet. Varun has some trust issues, having been "abandoned" [as he puts it] as a pup. If you want to know him, he likes treats, so a good way to start up a conversation with him is surprising him with a yummy snack. He spends most of his time in or near water, finding it comforting. He gets nervous easily and will often make angry faces at you if you're too close, but don't worry, his bark is way worse than his bite. He only bites when provoked.
Varun is sort of a pacifist. He hates fighting, or arguments, and since he isn't easy to get along with, he prefers just avoiding you.
Varun is hard to get close to, but once you're in his heart, you're there forever and ever. He's EXTREMELY loyal, believe it or not. He gets lonely easily, and could possibly have separation issues, so if you see him trailing along behind you at a safe distance, don't freak out. He just wants a friend. [He loves female attention, but don't tell him i told you that...]
Varun is very playful. He loves to tease and taunt fish and enjoys teasing other Shinlai from afar. His attitude towards humans is rather negative. He won't go within a 7 mile radius of one if he can help it. He finds them a little freaky, prancing along on their two legs.
Varun also has some self confidence issues. If you insult him, or point out a flaw, even if you're kidding, he'll believe you. [I think he really needs some professional help..]

HISTORY: Varun's parents were both Daila followers, and were childhood sweethearts. They met when they were around 13 and stayed close until they were old enough to raise their own families. Varun was not the first child, but his older sibling had died long before Varun was ever conceived. His parents were so grieved that they decided to not try again for many, many years. About 15 years after that tragedy, they tried again, and his mother had a miscarriage from an unknown cause. His parents waited 22 years before having another. And then, Varun was born. A healthy little creature, all fat and fluffy. His parents kept a very close eye on him, not wanting this young Shinlai to fall to the same fate his older sibling had. Though about 8 years after Varun had been born, his parents discovered they had fallen prey to an illness similar to their first childs. They panicked, terrified that their only child would catch the sickness. Late in the night, they woke up the young Shinlai and tucked him away in a spot where they believed he would not be discovered by some predator, then they left..

Varun claims he was "abandoned" as a youngling because the only memory of his parents he can recall is them leaving him in a cozy nest, though they had figured out that they had a sickness and didn't want to risk him getting sick too. They died soon after they left. [Or so he thinks..] Varun spent years after that struggling to survive by himself so young. He starved. He begged and pleaded for death to come, but it would not.. So he made his way through life. Once, an older male had discovered him trying to steal some of his meal, so he nipped him on the butt and sent him squealing. He's been afraid of other males ever since.

When Varun was around 17 years, he met an old female who had mothered many children. They were grown and gone. She noticed a skinny blue figure lying motionless by a river. She took him to her home, fed him, made sure he lived. She raised him for about 6 years, then she too passed.
By this point, Varun had gained so much body mass that he was one of the larger males, though not quite grown.

For the next 4 years, Varun found himself a permanent home in an underwater cave, a place he felt completely safe. He tried for a mate, but failed miserably and decided to wait a little longer for that. Varun was masked in the time that the old Shinlai had taken care of him.
As the days go on, Varun sometimes notices an old Shinlai, one who's obviously been through a lot, watching him. Just watching. He never comes close, never tries to communicate.
The old Shinlai looks terribly familiar..

/: To be honest, i did NOT like this option at first, but my mom liked him a lot, so i decided to do him, and as i did, i fell in love with him! Hes so pretty..

I really hope i get him.. I've been wanting a Shinlai for like.. EVER. And now i finally get a chance!

To be honest, i cried while making him. i had been working on him for about 2 hours, AND MY COMPUTER SHUT OFF. i was SO upset. I had to start all over.. I cried for a good 30 minutes.
