Yeah, this is usually how it goes.(Just a quick little reminder that Leftists can be pro-gun too, or at least prefer to address the gun violence problem in a way that doesn't render ourselves defenseless.)

You kinda have to be pro-gun if you wanna be a leftist. Karl Marx himself advocated the proletariat be well-armed for the coming revolution. Not to mention that leftists aren't nearly as autistic about guns as American conservatives are...

So there WASNβT mass gun confiscation in the Soviet Union or any of the other communist nations?

The Soviet Union was largely state capitalist, meaning the state owned the means of production, as opposed to the workers (socialism/communism) or the bourgeoisie (capitalism). It wasn't communism, it was just trying to achieve communism, in a very deluded way. And I assure you, the communist nations that aren't mentioned in your biased Western textbooks, the ones that worked extraordinarily well (i.e. Yugoslavia, Burinka Faso, Catalonia, Libya, etc.), didn't have any need to confiscate firearms.
Read a goddamn book.

Yugoslavia is mentioned only once in my textbook. My HIGH SCHOOL textbook. I've never even HEARD of Yugoslavia before then. Really makes you think, doesn't it?

Oh, you think that's bad? My high school economics textbook literally described communism as "when the government does stuff." It was seriously that fucking undialectical and classcucked. The absolute disgrace of it all... But I feel your pain, comrade. It's a good thing the internet exists to help us actually learn shit, right?

I agree with you on this. All of the above would go much farther to solving the problem.

Itβs almost like single solutions to complex issues arenβt enough

It's been kind of surreal for me since the LV massacre, leftists I know are saying "time to loosen up the gun debate" and Iraq vets I know are saying "It's fine, let's get registers going and put bars on the assault rifles". Hope you come across each other and find common ground.

... And dont forget that plenty genuinely do want to do nothing. That critique is not invalid with plenty people. Wanting stricter gun control is often met with ridicule and cries of oppression.Β

Almost exclusively from them. Or at least, they are the most vocal.
