Well... this is step one in my automail for my 2008 Fullmetal Alchemist cosplay. I got the pattern from Amethist Angel's Armor Making tutorial.Tools: craft foam, silver paint, hot glue gun, black glove
I'm hoping to have the rest of the arm complete by Christmas. THen, the leg.....
(I'll move this and all other Automail WIP to scraps once it's completly done.)

Mine...it was so simple to make, too. However I should of used better material since I started to fall apart after that one weekend.

Possibly. But for now... my automail hand is retired... I've moved on to another anime which takes up all my time now. I plan to go back to my roots someday.

thats pretty sweet, then again you could just leave the hand and just cover the rest of your arm lol cheapscate

When I made mine I wore it while I glued. Surprisingly it didn't burn my right hand but IRONICALLY I ended up searing my left index finger so pulling the trigger on the glue gun was extremely painful. Fun times...
It looks really good. I couldn't get the forearm to work properly though. It's tricky considering how much that part of the body needs to move and rotate.

I can't get myself to make the rest of the arm yet. And my pattern peces got thrown away. but I'm sure somewhere down the road I will make it. I'm doing to much at my convention to use the whole arm... the hand will only be seen in photoshoots anyways....

Thats awesome! So its just foam painted and glued? How good did the foam stay on?

The foam stayed on very well once I swtiched from Elmer's glue to hot glue. But if your gonna try it like I did by wearing the glove as you glue... I highly recomend a rubber glove between your flesh and the automail glove.
