Bassically when I had this idea I thought of dragon like birds but then thought that theres no passive mobs in the Nether and changed the design to a flame resistant chickens. Please tell me how to improve if I need to.

Mob Type: PassiveHealth Points: 20Attack Damage: ---Spawn: The NetherDrops: Phoenix Ash* 1, Phoenix Feathers* 0-2Experience: 4Phoenixs are the Nethers cute little birds. Unlike most birds they dont drop meat, and cant die in lava and fire. They spawn in Nether castles in groups of 20 but will sometimes spawn in other parts of the nether.*Phoenix ash is what phoenixs drop when killed, but not as a item. the ash will take 2 minecraft days to hatch into a phoenix chick. You can mine the ash and place it where ever you want or use it in potions. It can also be used to smelt things, with ten times the efficency of coal.
**Phoenix feathers are like chicken feathers but orange with a yellow tip and can be used to make flame arrows.

Well, I suppose it depends on how complex you wish to make the model. With simple ones, it's quite easy but with others (say, the ones from pokemobs) it would take ages to do it without experience

I just have a question, I'm having trouble getting started. I don't know how to make the code for a mob. Should I start making the model, and then make the code, or the other way around? Are there any good tutorials you recommend for 1.7.10?

You need program to make mods. I don't know anything about coding, but look on youtube, there are plenty of useful videos. But, beware, it can chrash your computer! By the way, if you make mod, put it on internet, so I can download it!

It'd be cool if you got a Phoenix chick and fed it coal or Blaze Rod/Powder or something until it grew into an adult Phoenix. Or, put it on your head like a hat and glide around if you jumped off a great height.
