~Childhood/Youth
Ophelisa's childhood was, like the one of all the other noble children, imprinted by the high social constraints and, above all, her father's position. Since her birth, she "suffered" from a severe form of vitiligo (Pigment disorder), which spread on her skin the older she got. Especially on her back where a portrait, which looked like a pair of wings, became apparent. She was a bright albeit spoiled child at first, whom every wish was granted immediately and lacked for nothing.
Ophelia had a strong bond with her mother who reassured her over and over that these "marks" were god's will, given to her as a symbol. Her - her little angel who walked on earth to do the good. That it's the patron saint of travellers and people in need of help himself who watches over her - Archangel Raphael. Little Ophelia, lovingly called Lia or Little Lil by her mother, would realise how true this would turn out sooner than she liked. Ophelia trusted her mother's words, who raised her in a very religious way and who was convinced by her child's good will and strong faith towards the lord. In doing so, her mother was not obsessed or dominant at all with her proceed of bringing and sharing god's love with her family. By far different motives stuck behind her love and a much bigger fate that her only child would have to share.
And she strengthened Ophelia's self-confidence whenever she could, especially in regards of her special markings, which often brought distress to the child. Often she was brought to tears through them, since she didn't knew how to hide the ones in her face when she went out in public and felt even more distraught at the questioning look of strangers. Over and over she reassured her little one that it is not bad at all and that she isn't less pretty or lovable. It only helped conditionally. In her parental house, Lia merely felt free from all the pressure of her status and forgot what she has been 'punished' with. Montgomery shared the view of his wife, who was besotted by his daughter. She was her mother's reflection he hold in his hands. His most precious treasure - his guardian angel. "A big and a small one, always watching over me!" - like he used to say. But he had no idea how much truth would be behind his statement and which fate his wife and daughter would share.
Since the estate of the Broderick's was far away on the plains, Lia had rather rare till no contact at all to other children (Of the same age). Only at her fifth year of life, as her mother started to take her to social events, tea parties and charity events , she started to have contact both to children of her age and older/younger ones with the same status. Due to these circumstances and contacts she quickly learned that the nature of a human could be very mean and hurtful, which made her doubt her belief in the good and made her mistakenly commit a, in her eyes deadly sin which she would tell someone years later. Albeit it shouldn't be her last...

The incident proceeded as followed: :
Her mother Margarette (Short Maggie) took her in the summer of her fifth year of life to a bazaar which should benefit the homeless people of London. Not a common matter for the sirs and madams of her rank, since they usually have their own methods (Balls and festivals) among themselves which excluded the 'common people', albeit the 'effort' was addressed towards them. Those bazaars were different because they were organized by church. Furthermore it was important for Lia's mother that she, despite of the big, fortunate prosperity her family could enjoy, knew that nothing in life would be given as a present. That you should thank god everyday for the things he gives and to be kind and helpful towards anyone who hasn't that much luck in life. After all, you could never know how long fortune would hold on...
The community was very thankful for Lady Broderick and her arrangement, which would benefit the reputation of the noble in general, especially her husband. This was one of the reasons why Maggie had no concerns about letting her little angel play with the children of those in need, since she hardly had contact to children of same age. Ophelia however was unsure when she came to the children that were playing in an alley, remotly of the commotion. The children started to scrutinize and inspect her. They even started to riddle her with questions and to make fun of her. Six mites, four of them boys who had to puff themselves up. The kids seemed to know eachother very good which is why one boy after another went into the mean remarks. Lia didn't understand why and what she did to make them act so nasty. She lowered her head, looked to the ground and tried to hide her anger and disappointment, although the tears in her eyes were increasing. But it wouldn't stop for so long...
Over and over they called her 'Monster' - 'Spoilt, spotted cow' and 'Bastard'. She kept begging them to stop and to leaver her alone, yet it didn't helped. One of the boys went so far to push her as she was about to sob, being pleased by hurting her successfully! Arrogant as he was, he advised her to run to her mommy and to get back to their estate, no one wants her here!
The more the boy 'abused' her, the more would not only her tears increase.
She clenched her fist more and more and started to shake strained in her helplessness. Ophelia strenuously bit her lower lip as the wind around her would become stronger. Which not only swirled up the grounds, but also her curls.
The other children started to get uncomfortable and asked their 'leader' to stop. Ophelia asked once again, as the boy pushed her away. The blond one laughed and recommented his friends not to be ridiculous. The moment he wanted to touch her once again she grabbed his wrist so jolting that the person opposite wasn't even capable of moving. She stared directly into his face, which immediatly turned pale. Fear ascended him within seconds, hardly seeing that the girl's eyes were his mockery's victims, dyed white and likewise, in a diabolical darker tone saying he should -'leave her alone!'- before she would throw him in the next moment with a, for a girl unnatural force, away. Unfortunately he fell down the stairs, which happened to be at the end of the alley, and remained motionless. The eyes of the other mites widen out of panic and they stared in the direction of the steps back to Ophelia, who for a moment slumped and panted. All the more they were pointing at her and the two girls shouted 'Monster!' - 'She killed Adam!' while two of the boys ran down to their friend.
Lia barely realised what happened, heard what they seemingly reproached her for, she abrupt pulled herself, clearly crying, together and - fled!
She didn't checked if she truly killed the boy with this weird power she couldn't explain herself! But she wasn't able to stay there any longer. She couldn't take the gazes and the fault. If she just would have looked after him she would've realised, even if they just would have called for help, that the boy they called Adam wasn't dead, he simply blacked out because of her force...

Nonetheless, nothing could change the from her believed fact that Ophelia committed a sin and murdered this boy! She let her mother stay uncertain about the incident, like everyone else, and asked not to go to any of these public events again, fearing that something might become worse than it already is.
Her mother clearly realised that something must have happened, but didn't forced her child to talk about it, albeit her worries wouldn't budge.
A last attempt was made the following spring, as her parents were invited for a tea party by Sir Malcolm Murray and his wife Gladys. Sir Malcolm was a good friend and former business partner of her father. When her father had to travel to India or Africa, he often enjoyed the company of the bearded man with the deep voice, who must have experienced so much like no one they knew ever before - except her beloved father of course.
The Murray's had children as well. A daughter named Mina and an older son called Peter. They lived right next to the family Ives, who also had a child - Vanessa. As Lia's mother told her, Mina and the young Miss Ives grew up together and became best friends. Remarkable that the girls seemed like light and shadow. Mina blonde and bright, Vanessa brunette, dark and mysterious. Miss Murray and Miss Ives were both much older than Ophelia, nonetheless their parents suggested to let the children play together, on which they've sent Ophelia to the maze of the Murray's in which the kids often spent time together, to look and inform them that the tea would soon be ready. With it, no sign would come from the young Miss Broderick or the others, whereupon Gladys instructed Mr. Andrews to call the children. Mine and Peter reacted immediately and followed the demand of the upper servant - though Mina and Ophelia didn't!
Furthermore trapped in the maze, the wind became wilder like the one time Ophelia was exposed with those children. But this time it was different. Lia felt more than considerably, that she wasn't alone, even if she couldn't see anyone. A weird, yet bad present and also - someone was insider her! She clearly felt it and what the stranger 'did' to her! Her small heart was pounding out of fear and at the same time, a feeling as if this strange figure inside her would pay attention to her. Even protect and stand in front of her, like last summer...?! It was the first time a thought appeared, a thought that she was not the one who made the boy suffer, but very well the one who didn't detained it. This something, or this someone who gave her this 'power'...Yes! It must be 'HIM'!
And 'he' caused her to suddenly hear voices. Among them a specific language she never heard before, scabious and cawing. The sound of pure wicked in no language she understood or knew, like french or latin as in her prayers.
Ophelia looked around, lost the orientation and rushed through the hedges, hoping to find the entrance/exit. In doing so she called out for the young Miss Ives, since she thought she might be in danger. She got no answer however. Only the demonic laughter resounded again and again.
Yes it worked, as if you hunt yourself without directly looking for yourself... as if you talk to each other without opening your mouth...
Without a doubt, something wasn't as it should be...
As the waiting time came to a head and Miss Murray called the children herself, both finally left the maze, but as being chased by a ghost. At least Ophelia ran as fast as possible to her mother with the urgent request of going home, while Vanessa returned, calmly and clueless about the frightened younger girl. Visibly exhausted by her agitation she fell into a small faint, which arranged her mother to rapidly take up their journey home.
Ophelia wouldn't see the Murrays, just as Vanessa Ives for the next 15 years, nor remember the incident!
To be continued...
