While Marie Antoinette was irresponsible as a ruler, there was no doubt in my mind she loved her kids with all her heart,

I'm sorry to say, but she even was a good mother at all. She saw her kids more as accessoires' than children at all. What you've seen in that series wasn't really true.. she just 'acted' (if one could even call it that way) like a mother when they where at the Temple prison and at the Conciergerie... so for the last few month of her spoiled stupid life... .wonderful!

Oh I see, I don't really know much about Marie Antoinette so you can say I try to give her the benefit of the doubt of who she really was as a person before her death, while she was executed and people accused her of causing France's great depression, there were others that tried to tarnish her reputation and nearly ruin France as well like Jeane de Valios in the "Affair of the Diamond Necklace" case. So I can't put all the blame on Marie Antoinette in those cases, but if what you say is true about what she is as a mother, I feel terrible for her kids and it's a good thing her eldest child died before things became bad because his head would have been chopped off like his family's.

You judge and think about her because of what you have seen in ROV/Lady Oscar and other movies, right?
The person who she really was is a selfish, childish, mostly careless, arrogant thoughtless lil brat, later queen. She betrayed the king, did high treason to his country and even in her last days she never ever understood why all of this happend to her. Marie-Therese said later as Duchess de Angoulême - "My mother was a bad woman, she never understood why she had to die."
Jeanne de Valois de La Motte did much more understandable things than this Austrian ***** I'm sorry!
She might be innocent in this affair BUT at the same time Jeanne was just able to get her plan through (esp when the French didn't believe the queen had now Idea about all of that) because her panache and expensive ignorant lifestyle leaded to it all. So she is to blame nonetheless in a way, you see.
And sadly it was true. She cared more for her adopted kids then for her own or even more to be at the top of all women (esp at Versailles and the nobles) than to be a good mother. The king instead loved his babies! All of them! So much, that he spend (even his first one was just a girl) every free minute in the rooms of the queen to see his lil girl smile. He was so pleased of her first baby teeth and her very first words were 'Papa' with already 8 month instead of 'Maman'. That she just 'learned' when Marie-Therese was 12 month old. Interesting, huh? The princess had problems to recognise her mother in her rooms from all of the other servants and court ladies... sounds strange to me for 'such a good mother', right?

Not really, most movies don't follow history and butcher real events so I look her up on historical websites and such.
Oh no I understand your anger, Marie Antoinette spent the entire kingdoms money on fancy clothes and jewels and makeup and when I heard of that when I found out about her I was just as mad as you were. And while Marie Antoinette was innocent of that crime, she did things that ruined her reputation and no one believed her, so her lavish lifestyle needs bite her in the ass in the end and she suffered the consequences.
Okay, that I didn't know and that is heart breaking, at least the kids had a loving dad.

Ahh great and glad you do, dear Abd you are so right, sadly series and movies often used to do that -.- and that sucks so much...tbh.. like this shitty movie of Mr. Dunst from 2010! Gosh how much I hate this shit...
And YES! Exactly. I couldn't agree more!
Ohhh I coud tell you sooooooo SO much more... but you know people prefer to believe in their imagination and wishful thinking than to face reality sadly D: *sigh

And the Jeane de Valios movie where they depicted her as a hero when she actually caused more suffering France and started to Revolution.
Her husband said it best, "Lord protect us, for we reign too young." they were both unprepared and they only saw the privledges.
Yeah, while the winners write the history and some of the people who we thought were evil were good, Marie Antoinette has records of her shopping and money spending, so we have proof she was responsible for it.

RedPassion In reply to Mahogany25 [2016-06-29 11:50:46 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't say that tbh.. she wasn't the reason why the revolution actually started, because there were many many reasons and lil 'starts' already before when Louis XV. was still king... And she also wasn't that main reason who coasted France so much... she made the monarchy bleeding.. yes... esp the Austrian B... but she wasn't, as said such a important figure at all, no...
And Louis never said that in fact...*sigh* That was made up by others.. like his words "Is it a revolt?" - "No Sire, it's a revolution" The 'famous' conversation when the Bastille was attacked and put him at the place of not caring for it until Clery woke him up. Not true at all too!
And we have muuuch more proofs of her character and nasty selfish heart. But people prefer to see the dramatic queen and mother (she never was) than to face the reality and the truth! She truth is for free but no one want it because it depresses people in their illusions...

True, of course Jeane was one of the many people who escalated the Revolution.
Really!? Who keeps making those sayings for them!? I knew Marie Antoinette never said "Let them eat cake." but if that's the case people are REALLY being historically inaccurate! Now I don't know what to think is true in their history!
And yet people have no problem seeing Henry the 8th as a wife head chopper and shitty father and king.

But she was still and imho a very lil light in those big storm, you know...
Who? Oh well e.g Madame Jeanne Louise Henriette Campan, which loved to spear her version of the truth to the world until today...sadly. She was one of MA chambermaids .Without such a high status but in her way of thinking she felt herself being much more important than she really was in fact. She copied situations down of and with the Queen (AND the king) which never happend that way BUT to put MA into a much better light though, you see? Because Mme Campan adored her til hell (IDK why or can even understand that but well...) It's true that she stand with her during the revolution together with her only daughter also through Tuileries attack, but after that she escaped though.
Her memorials were also just released when the last REAL chambermaids died in the end - it was Louise Emilie Maguerite Henriette de Laborde, married later Hinner and then Jarjayes. So yes the woman they use in the Anime/Manga as Oscar's mother was real even if all the things of her having so much kids aren't true at all. Also not that she was already that old. When Emilie became a chambermaid at Versailles she was just the age of the Dauphine or even younger. So quite impossible for her suit her animated version... But Emilie knew the truth, so, as said Mme Campan waited until she died to take her position and published the Untruth to everyone... sadly. SAo authors like Fraser, Haslpi, Lever and esp Stefan Zweig believed in that. Zweig was also the novel (yes novel NOT biography!) Ryoko Ikeda had read to base her story on for MA... isn't that sad? -.-
And not MA never said - Let them eat cake!
It was said/written when she was just 1 year old and born by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and his work ' le confessioni'.
BUT it suits MA perfectly nonetheless!
And yes true but he was A) a man and B) MA never killed anyone on propose, you see? She 'killed' them rather with her ignorance and selfish kind. But people can easily look over that and make up her own illusion...

So Oscar's mother was a real person and knew the truth? Oh that's even more heart breaking.
Of course.

Oscar never was a real child of her. This is all just made up by Ikeda! But yes she knew because she was there but didn't wrote any memorials though sadly.

RedPassion In reply to Mahogany25 [2016-07-02 14:58:28 +0000 UTC]
Well I think to spear her 'truth' to the world after those hatted MA for what she had done. Like this (and that really finally happened) people started to believe in all these lies... And that was I guess her goal to see this Austrian as an poor angel instead of what she really was. And she saw a chance then, after every 'witness' were dead... But to bad, that the truth always comes up in the end!

I understand, besides Marie pissed me off a bit in the show because of how clueless and selfish she was and how she spent her time shopping and not listening to her advisors. I'm surprised Oscar didn't give her a tongue lashing for those things.

RedPassion In reply to Mahogany25 [2016-07-02 15:25:48 +0000 UTC]
Because no matter how much I like Oscar though, she acts like a totally Mary Sue too... everybody loves her, wants her, she can do everything, looks pretty, have no flaws and acts often very selfish herself e.g towards André. She also don't deserves him if you ask me. Beside that fact that Oscar is very stupid herself when it comes to MA and the Dauphine/Queens behaviour except at the end... and so she proofs what a bad friend she actually was to someone she actually loved too... Oscar isn't my fav either sadly. My darling is beside Louis ofc André, Alain and his sister Diane...

Mahogany25 In reply to RedPassion [2016-07-02 15:30:56 +0000 UTC]
I heard they might redo the show so they might fix Oscar's character a bit, the things I would keep with her is her beauty, her dislike for the selfish nobles her love for Andre . What I would change is that she would actually stand up against her father and maybe hit him back just once like how he hit her, actually tell off Marie Antoinette when her patience finally thins, and also have more insight of her feelings for Andre as she would start to actually let her guard down for him and become more and more content being a woman in that situation and actually blush from time to time.

RedPassion In reply to Mahogany25 [2016-07-02 15:41:05 +0000 UTC]
I don't think that will ever happen.. they use to talk about that for years now.. and nothing will happend. Also what should they fix? It's the same in the Manga... So IF they are going to make a remake of it nothing will change... Oscar and MA will remain the same sadly.
It's ironic as said because she is herself a selfish noble too until she took Rosalie with her. She wasn't nasty to the poor, nope but she didn't even care until her and the revolution either. And her love for André...well... great to realise that he is her only one after Fersen refused her and she had no one else after and Girodelle was out of question, huh? Sounds like like true love to me, indeed... NOT.
I don't blame her father or her either way for what they have done and how they acted ... I mean that Réne wanted a son after all the girls I can understand. And that she lived the life of a man instead too, but her behaviour against André was heartless more than often...
I would prefer a Lady Oscar version of the truth! BUT THIS will never happened because of the reasons I already told you before.... *sigh*

Well MA never hit her kids or something like that, surely not. But to only "accept" a kid cause its there its also not a good way for a mother. She doesn´t really care of them, in the opposite to Louis. At least not in my opinion...-.- But anyhow, some guys still thinks that she was a soooooooooooooooo good and good loving mother..>>LOL And such f*** movie like these one with Kirsten Dunst and sadly also the anime Lady Oscar/Rose of versailles tells also the same. Cause their creaters back in days, at leat to LO(Riyoko Ikeda) read the Bio. of Stefan Zweig...
Oh my...a fairytale... Also the book of Antonia Fraser... Everybody say it would be soooo great, but sry....i find not. Sure it have many of details about her life, but one can write and read about a theme in way thatyou see it just with pink glasses or you read it deeply and take then a look behind the "pretty" wall, you know? Cause appearances are deceitful. And its much easier to float with the current as against it.
^^°° oh you did? So thank you very much. Well i only know the family to my man Louis XVI. and the whole cotext of/to it...
Well i have a lot of books.(german, french and english) and i visit Paris/Versailles and Co. as often as i can. I talk to a lot of guys there and to my french friends wich someone had studied Louis XVI. for himself and they argee with me. The French also know that they did a bis mistake with the french Revo. and his death! Thats why they adore til today!!! But they don´t like her and THEY ALSO know why!
I know Wiki is not the best place to get real informations, at least nothing wich goes deeper in the subject matter, there are just dates and general facts.... You don´t have to be an historian or a professor to understand a charater of a man. The only thing you need is a clear thinking mind wich is missing to the most of guys...-.-

Yeah, I agree with you.
I've watched Marie Antoinette movie' too
She indeed was potrayed like what you said ( though, unfortunenately the movie only show little scene about her and her children part...also, it's nearly the end of the movie...sucks >.< ). They did potrayed Louis XVI quite well, though ^^
I love his shy personality
I think it's kinda cute
I like the kids who played as their children'too ^^
Especially, Louis Charles...he's really cute (I wanna hug that kid..!)
Wow, you've actually visited Versailles..?!
Awesome...I've only watch the palace on TV's history programme...
Looks really beautiful and huge, for sure
They had many awesome furnitures, sculptures, paintings and many other things that made me amazed...
French revolution was really cruel..
Even just reading about its history in Wikipedia is enough to make me shiver...People can be so evil when anger controlled them..scary...
I feel sorry for Louis XVI (and his children, of course). He was good man who cared about his family and people...

Thank you!
Oh and do you like it anyhow?
I ask this again, cause almost the whole world (America und Co....except of France *lol* Ok and this one wich can think clearly) don´t do it... Well the problem with the MA06 is, that they showing her in a totally wrong way... E.g that she was a sooooo kind and lovely girl. Well til the part Fesern came to her again in the movie, of course, its okay...but than...hello??? o.0 He visite her, slept with her like a bitch..and then...he is away...great way to show a good name. Also cause MA was against Madame Dubarry cause she brought Louis XV. pleasure, like MA did with Fersen. -.- But who cares, it seems....-.- And she was toooooooooo kind to Louis after they become queen!!! In reality she tried to destroy his "good name" just cause he still doesn´t slept with her at this time... And why? Have/had anybody ask why? NO! Not cause he would have problems with his body and...you know... He was perfect! It was just a problem of his mind (Oh dear...i could tell you things to it...*sigh*), among other things cause of her and her kind to talk about him in lies. Everything only cause his brother drum lies into her mind of him! MA said about him that he would had/have a congenital phimosis. She talk that to her ladies at a tea-party and the newspapers in Paris were full of it. Hm...but its strange that he was on the date she called on a hunting trip, isn´t it?! If you have such a operation, you cannot do sitting on a horse til your wounds are okay again, you know?
And that was just an example wich is lost in MA06 e.g or other things about her in TV or movies all the time... Why, well cause they wanna see a pic of her wich can destroy their illusion. Its all the time the same...
And yes Jason did at the begin a "nice" job with Louis´s kind...but then...o.0 sry...no way! They showed him in some parts as an fool he doesn´t was! Remember on the part with his ministers and the paper roll? -.- And sry but Jason looks terrible as my darling...
If you would to see some good actors i can show tow of it and the best i know
And at the movie soooooo many much important parts of the history and for the understandig (at least for a clear thinking guy) to all of it, are missing!! Where was the necklace affair? Why she met Polignac before she was queen? o.0 Why the folk get angry???? She don´t do anything in there? What a f*** was that with the pics and the one dead child? It seems ther it would be Charles wich is died, and not Louis Joseph So we have the next misstake in it! Why the folk wanted her out of Versailles? Just cause of a few partys and dresses, oh my... Great job they did with it!!! >.< And the great joke of it Antoina fraser, wich i guessed she would have a lil bit more intellect is absolutely enthused of this movie....
Well i admit that the dress are nice...abd surley the BG´s. But hallo??? These color they used ther doesn´t exsited back in time. -.-
There are sooooooooooooooooo many more points. Thats are points nobody do talk about.... Less than ever the Americans or everybody who believe it that she was an angel... I just saw it for a few minutes a 29 years old "boy" how reads Antonia freaser
...that says it all...
Oh my...i´m sry...i talk to much i guess...-.-
Thank you that you like my man Yes his shy kind is really cute. He was a warm loving person, loyal and honestly! But he had sadly the wrong a more than hard life
He was all the time alone except of his kids... He would have needed a person, a woman wich had loved with all her heart and soul!!
So, yes!!! The kids were sooooooooooooo sweet!!!!! *_* I love Charles too. But also MT in it...this swet blond locks...awww
Yes i did very often and i will do it again on April 16.
Its not commensurably with that you can see in TV...its amazing and sooooooooooo big and high!!!O.O Also the Grand Garden!!You must need 3 days to see all of it! Oh yes all these Art there is sooo adorable! I especially love the bust of him ther in the room = Oeil-de-Boeuf Salon and looks very similar to mine bust of him
Yes bit anyhow it was more than foolish of the folk, cause the don´t wanted a king or queen anymore, but what did Napoleon? o.0 He made hisself to the new empress? Hello????
Ohhh thank you very very much. Thats really kind and i´m so happy to see that there are also really normal guys on this world, like you are!!^^ Also thx a lot for the watch!!^^

Sorry for the late reply...
About the movie, well...overall I quite enjoyed
Though, some parts of it was indeed dissapointing like the missing part of necklace affair, MA and Madame Du Barry's catfight part , Madame Polignac and more...
The story itself kinda boring because most of it only showing MA partying with her ladies and fellow nobles...they even shown none of French's poor situation as the effect of MA's extravagant spending~ >.<
I think Ikeda Ryoko's Lady Oscar had actually better story than this movie..>.<
But, I had to admit that the setting was totally awesome (the best part of the movie )
Oh,btw...I think MA's child who was died in the movie was Louis Joseph after all. It can't be Louis Charles because the boy shown standing beside MT was a toddler. If I'm not mistaken, MT had 3 years age gap with Louis Joseph and 7 years age gap with Louis Charles..so, if it's Louis Joseph, the boy will be shown as a child not toddler
U welcome
Louis XVI is my fave king because he was kindhearted and a loving person Not many king had good heart like he was ^^
