Description This is a sketch I did as an extra for John Barnes after completing a commission for him.

What's the story behind these two? Hmmm....don't know, but the "C-57D" is a reference to the spaceship from the classic SF film FORBIDDEN PLANET.

(Yeah, I know...it's a bit of an obscure reference. But I love that film, so....)

Drawn with red pencil and converted to black and white in PhotoShop.

Enjoy and comment....

I really like the design you used for Tara's suit. Very cool!

Thanks much!

You know, if I could do another picture of her and Jake...would be cool, but first I'd have to figure out something...

It remains a joy to see your work in my watch list - too many manga artists today push fantasy or horror, to see one dealing in science fiction is a rare treat. Gives me hope.

Thank you very much for that. While I do like both fantasy and horror, and hope to create more pictures involving those themes, I have always liked science fiction. The fact that manga and anime dealt with that genre better than many American comics and cartoons is one major reason why I got into both.

Besides, girls in spacesuits are cool. 'Nuff said.

I liked it. Thank you so much.

Hey, obscure references are the best kind. Why waste time mentioning something that has been mentioned 3,000 times on various TV shows and movies when you can aim for something only a small collection knows by heart. It encourages the ability to search.

Right on about the obscure references...they do trigger the drive to hunt down info on their origins, which can lead to one discovering a great movie or TV show or book that might have been forgotten or overlooked.

Glad you liked the pic as well! Maybe I could cook up a story (or new images) for them...

I have discovered some cool things with looking for them. Of course, most of that stuff was seeing riffs from MST3K (for example, in "the Phantom Planet", I knew the Olympic theme and , but I didn't know about Samford and Son or the B-52's "Rock Lobster").

You can try and do that. After all, things look good here. You had a lot of fun with this.

Right on. That's all it takes sometimes--just a phrase or word, and off you go!

I did have fun drawing this, even if it took a few tries! Hopefully, any future work with them won't be that difficult...

Maybe something along the lines of ZERO GRAV, perhaps?

Hey, that all helps.

You should go down that ZERO GRAV route.

Well, I think you can do it. And for one, I'd like to see you give it a shot.
