It's summer, and an unusual dry spell has overcome Gensokyo. The half-ghost gardener Youmu Konpaku decided to cool off by donning her swimsuit and heading to a local pond to swim in. Upon her arrival however, the recent drought had almost completely dried out the pond, and Youmu stood in disappointment on the boat dock looking at the vast expanse of exposed lake bed. The area by the dock was somewhat marshy even when the lake was filled, and one of the remaining water spots just happened to be near this particular area. Even if there was no lake to swim in, Youmu's curiosity got the best of her and she decided to take a stroll across the lake bed.

But as soon as she jumped off the edge of the dock, the lake bed squelched loudly and thick, moist clay splattered in all directions as she was swallowed up to her knees. Gasping in surprise and disgust, she turned around and attempted to walk back towards the dock. Several steps later, she was stuck up to her groin. Desperate to get out of her embarrassing predicament, Youmu grabs the chain attached to the dock that would normally be used for mooring boats used by the Human Village.
