It’s Bluebell season in the UK and I’m so missing them being in Sweden.

I thought I’d take a trip down memory lane and look at what I shot last year.

It was only then I had totally forgot about the 4×5 camera I had briefly owned or the Kodak Ektar I’d shot with it. I’m also wondering why I sold the 4×5 camera or my trusty Canon M2?

Amazingly from the shots I’d taken on film I had developed some, which like this shot, came out really well. Weird, I’d totally forgotten all about them and from my notes last year had probably convinced myself that they were all bad.

Here are the notes from another shot I posted last year called Belt and Braces.

"I was not even going to go out that morning, I’d been going to the Bluebell Woods in Ashridge pretty much every day since the lovely little flowers started to appear. I’d tried to dance around the mountains of photographers over the last two weeks and did my level best to keep out of their way by heading off in the different direction.
So that morning I thought, “why not walk the dog locally and forget popping up to Ashridge?”
Besides, the weather did not look up to much either, as I glanced out of the window, so for me it was an easy decision to not go.

Then I stupidly took one look at the dogs face and he looked back at me with pleading eyes, which meant I was not going to fob him off with a short run around the local park. Damn.
So I slowly packed my camera 4×5 MPP camera in begrudging readiness for the off. I did the pat down check list, keys, check, wallet, check, film, check… Then looked at the Canon M2 sitting on the dining room table, and spent the next 10 minutes picking it up then putting it down, sadly I still don’t have the confidence to leave the digital camera a home and go film only.
I wanted to leave it at home but kept thinking about all the myriad of disasters I’ve had in the past. The more I pondered the Canon M2’s fate, the more the dog kept jumping up at me in a direct attempt to break me out of my crisis of confidence.

It worked, as my sleep addled brain snapped back to reality I decided to pick up the Canon and shove it in the camera bag. I left the house with the dog and headed off to Ashridge.
Well, what a surprise, I’m glad went in the end as there was only one other car parked in the Car Park and the mist was thick and the light was glorious. Spurred with enthusiasm I set up the 4×5 camera to take a shot, the dog meanwhile was standing there looking at me, so in between taking light readings, I’d throw a stick or two for the him to run after them. The first shot was a disaster as I’d forgotten to close the shutter on the lens before removing the dark slide. Doh. The next shot the dog returning at high speed with a stupidly long stick I had not thrown ran into the tripod and more than likely blurred everything as I was mid 50 seconds of exposure, Fc&K!!

At this point I turned to the little Canon M2 and took some back up shots, this is one of the back up shots made up of 8 stitched shots at a very slow shutter speed.

Sometimes it’s good to have belts and braces in the form of a digital camera back up as sometimes things don’t go according to expectations."

So from what I wrote last year it would seem I had no hope of getting any film shots worth posting. Thankfully I was wrong.
