Description I was playing around with background colors at first, then it started to turn into something else. I wasn't planning to make a full on impressionism piece. (LOL, Not sure if this is the right term.)
I know the angles are a little off.

For interests sake, let me know what this piece makes you feel?

The mismatch with angles certainly stands out. It's like those slanted rooms at an amusement park that mess with your head. It looks like the fireplace(?) is going up at an incline towards the back and receding quickly into space, but the wall itself is in a different perspective. It's hard to tell if the fireplace is going uphill or downhill.

The use of yellow vs purple color harmony is quite attractive and the little bit of green in the stem/leaves keeps it from getting too predictable. The fireplace and flower get the main attention. In a way, it looks like a piece of jello cake when I stare at it for a while. If I imagine the purple insides as being a block of grape jello, it gives the whole thing a new aspect.

The textures are probably the most attractive aspect of this. The purple areas on the vase look like real glass and I also like the white/purple/brown contrasting edge at the bottom of the fireplace, even though if it's intended to be stone, it would work better if there were some chipped spots to break the straight line. Or is this a bookcase? The shape is so simplified that it can be interpreted in many different ways.

I think the corner with the light source is the least interesting part. It looks a bit messy, like a smudge brush was ran over the lines. The white grainy light on the wall also seems unattractive in a way if I look at it directly, but if I look at it from the corner of my eye, it looks more appealing.

One thing I just realized is the fireplace casts a shadow upwards, even though the light source is in the corner. So it's definitely going deep into surrealism.

I feel that there is too much open floor, and it would be better if the perspective was more uniform. If you wanted to mess with people's heads, you could make the floorboards turn into steps at one end or alternate the angles. It sort of makes me think of this optical illusion: feeldoppel.co.uk/blogs/news/op… (the one in the cover image of the linked article.)

Honestly, this piece was done really quickly and randomly. The fireplace isn't exactly a fireplace, neither is it a bookshelf. If I had to say it would probably be something like a closed fireplace that only exists in the room because it's too difficult to remove.
I do love the stairs idea, sadly I'm not very good with optical illusions, but who knows, maybe I'll try making some in the future. It would fit well if I ever decide to make another one of these crazy pieces again.
I didn't notice the shadow problem with the "fireplace" thanks for pointing that out. Like I said this was done really quickly, and it was more like a go with the flow piece.
I do like that this piece kinds of messes with proportions, and I'm glad you noticed.

I am glad that you found it intriguing. Thank you very much for your critique.

Honestly I’d say this actually makes me feel a little uneasy! Why is the room empty except for that single sunflower?

I like that you said that, because I intentionally drew out the colors towards the ends of the floorboards, made them paler and bluer / colder looking, and when I did that it gave the image a slight eeriness.
But the real reason for the single flower was just really accidental. X3 I guess the emptiness of the room also adds to the feeling.

The flower makes it feel that there must be some untold story going on! It's quite interesting
