Description
Those unseen hands reach outThey grab, squeeze
Tighten
My breath grows short
Gasping, choking
Coughing
Head spinning,
Need air
Weakness
Help me!
I can't
Breathe!

living with asthma is scary. this is coming from a guy who has had more than 25 hospitalizations in my 19 years of life, 2 were in a coma and they say it is a miracle I am alive. I hate having asthma and it scares me too specially when i had an attack, and before the rescue could get to me I blacked out and the next thing I know all I see are nurses in the icu (intensive care unit) where I am well know. curse my weak lungs.

I am sorry that you have had it so rough. I hope that your health improves. Take care of yourself as best you can and let us both hope that the world starts looking after its air pollution.

I apologize for the tangent. As I have family with Asthma and it's an incredibly scary thing. But you were quite poignant in your comment about sometimes horror coming from one's self. And you inspired me. I hope to have a poem myself along similar lines. Thank you for writing such a intrinsically simplistic beauty of a poem, even if the essence carried to much darker depths from this reader.

I know exactly what you mean, and how it feels.
I have asthma myself, and though it's gotten progressively better, I was hospitalized many times as a child during an attack. It's a very scary thing, indeed.

I went undiagnosed and non properly treated for years, Ive only been officially diagnosed and managing my asthma for about 4 years not. Its gotten better. I don't get the lung infections any more. But some days, especially living in smoggy Toronto its bad.
People standing right outside of doorways smoking on my university campus (very common) is my current worst enemy.
*hugs* I hope that yours stays well under control.

Yep, smoking is the worst for me.
Well that, and my allergies can trigger my asthma... namely allergies during this time of year. My chest feels tight quite a lot of the time due to it.
And mine is under control, finally.
I was put on prednisone and various other steroidal medications, ventolin inhalers... it's been quite a journey, but it's not as bad as it was.
I wish you the same luck.

yeah i got pollen and mold allergies so spring and fall can be pretty rough. Im still on both steroidal meds and ventolin but it sure beats the nasty things like biaxin and codene infused cough syrup they used to prescribe when i would get bronchitis.
and thanks
