Description
A quick photo tutorial on how I reroot a fashion doll. The type of hair I used here is a mix of Midnight Black and Brunette Saran (mainly midnight black). I purchased it from [link] You can also get the long needle to make your "tool" from her as well.
Tutorial is also located on my website...

My victim here became Takoda and can be viewed here...

now here's a question for you:
How did you get the original hair out?

ReflectionsByIce In reply to memfox00 [2011-11-13 00:13:40 +0000 UTC]
OOOooo that's the fun part! First you take off their heads, chop all the hair off and pull it out from inside their head with tweezers. Nothing like ripping heads and hair out to relieve your frustrations
I use to have links on how to remove their heads without breaking then, but those places are all gone now. This one's not bad...

Thanks! The first barbie I got, I tried to pull the hair out the bottom, but I ended up ripping the head in two.
Don't ask how ;^^

There is a way to repair that if you want...

would you think this would work on monster high dolls?

I couldn't say for sure as I don't have one, but I imagine it would work for them too?

I hope this method works for me! I tried using a reroot tool which didnt work! I dont have the cork though...do I really need it???

ReflectionsByIce In reply to MademoiselleMischief [2011-02-18 22:36:38 +0000 UTC]
You can probably do it without a cork... but you may end up poking yourself with the needle a lot. The cork just ask as a handle... but you can use whatever else you can poke the needle into.

Got me curious now. Can this be done or is this ever done using real hair for the plugs?
π: 0 β©: 2
Security16 In reply to onerail78 [2009-04-20 17:03:25 +0000 UTC]
Human hair tends to shrink after a while after it has been rooted and will fall out as i found out with a doll that i had bought that had been rooted with human hair
π: 0 β©: 1
ReflectionsByIce In reply to Security16 [2009-04-23 15:14:57 +0000 UTC]
Maybe if using the tension method, but with having a knot in the middle, and the two ends in separate holes... it won't "fall out". You'd have to purposely wank on each plug.

Security16 In reply to ReflectionsByIce [2009-04-23 16:01:37 +0000 UTC]
I wish that were the case. I re-rooted a barbie a while back with a bit of my own hair with the knot method because back then it was the only way i knew but the hair pretty much over time for some reason either the knots came undone or the hair just snapped which was a shame because the hair looked really nice My other doll rooted with human hair is sitting in the garage waiting for another re-root and to be dressed up with outfits i'm going to make from a vintage pattern my mum bought for me

Yup... could be done with real hair, and probably has been done. I've often thought about doing it every time I cut my son's hair (he has gorgeous hair!).

Linnzy [2009-04-19 19:13:06 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I use that method..almost...I just do it a bit different....which makes my fingers hurt...this is great tut though, one of the best for re-rooting I've seen....

Glad you like it!
I think everyone develops their own way that works for them after they've done one or two reroots.
