I'm back with some classwork from my first week of my online class, we are asked to do an artwork study of RELLA's madoka fanart "Laceration" original art LINK

I did my teacher's demo version first to understand how to use the layer modes to achieve this:

but I really wanted to challenge to draw my own version as some of the past students I admire did the same :> It was harder than I thought because I'm not used to draw in anime style D:

The second classwork is a black and white 2 tone photostudy : The reason why we are asked to do this because many people shade with a soft brush because they don't know where the shadow should be so they just blend/ airbrush every shadow so the painting might end up looking too soft. Shadows actually have edges of different sharpness, and in this classwork we can only use black and white (or grey) to pick out the shadows of the photo ref. Another thing is NEVER USE SELFIE OR PHOTOS THAT HAVE SOFT SHADOWS to do photostudy, because the light and shadow edge is too soft to control and selfie have soft lighting and it's usually a bit distorted. (I have made this mistake in the past D: It was really hard to draw so I will never do it again)

It's good to do some practices that I have never try and having teaching assistant for feedback is great *^*I'm looking forward to the next week !
