Description
I've been stuck with creating drawings, even with fanarts because I feel like I'm stuck in a comfort zone. I need to learn new things, so I focus more on doing studies, finding issues I have in my working progress and fix them.So far what I have figured out :
I used to draw studies with a way of "drawing what I see", ignoring the structure so usually I run into problems such as the drawing doesn't look like the reference, the face not stright etc.
How I fix this problem : Start drawing a photo ref with the method of sketching traditional bust. The point is to capture the outline of the figure first with straight lines, and work my way in with details. Using many lines as a guide to make sure the overall structure is correct.
How I felt was that although I can't get it 100% like the ref, it won't go too far, it's not gonna look too bad if I figure out the correct structure.
Issue 2 :
When I finish a painting it looks nice when it's zoomed in, but looks weird zoomed out as a thumbnail
Problem is I zoom in too much when I draw. By zooming in too much you ignore what the picture looks like overall, and going into the details at early stage will break the balance without realizing. The right way to paint studies is to keep the canvas a bit small so you see the whole picture, work on the large shapes first, leaving details at last (you can zoom for details at finishing stage)
Also check the navigator window more often , it helps you too see if the painting is looking weird when it is being zoomed out.
It is better to treat the painting as a whole, rather than painting one bit and move to another bit. For example don't spend all the time on drawing the eyes, should be drawing a bit of the eyes, hair and face as you paint along, and leave the details later.
It's a bit too much information but I will treat it as a learning note to share with you guys. :>
Also I'm getting a lot of new watchers here ! Thanks for the watch as I'm putting more time with practices so I might post new works very slow, sorry about that !
