Description Talk about biting off more than I could chew! Ten years ago, when this page of Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan was published, I got some harsh criticism over the top row from a reader saying it looked like a school exercise in perspective, as well as being boring. The reader was not wrong. Looking at it now, what made it boring was that there was no sense of scale to the image. So now, with the reruns on ComicFury being back under way, I am fixing that. With a little help from a Sketchup model of a real (but ruined) abbey, I came up with this. Tell me there's no sense of scale in this one!

Unfortunately, the new abbey is so different from the old one that I will have to redraw the rest of the page as well. Ah well.

I do enjoy working with Sketchup models. I don't do it that often because it's a bit fiddly. But the results are always good. It's not mindless tracing: I've made several alterations and simplifications to the inked drawing and also had to deal with an error in the model itself. Still, it's so much better than what I could do on my own.

The model used is by British artist Andrew Francis and can be found in the Sketchup 3D warehouse. It is covered under the Sketchup license

They are! There's a bit of a story to that, but it'll have to wait until we're there.

Ugh, now that I see it in zoomed-out form, I'm not happy with the right side of the panel. There's a whole lot of nothing going on. Back to the pencils with this one.
