Description There is a plot hole that bugged me for quite some time now, and since I have no other place to put it, I'll put it here.
I've been puzzled by the fact that, in fact, Leo could have just taken over Danny's brain before the game even started, while he's weak.
Leo's anything but stupid. He's been plotting his escape for a very long time, and it wasn't just escaping the facility, it was starting a whole new life entirely. He destroyed the documents about himself and Danny so no one could know their past. He kills Danny's wife because she means nothing to him, and having someone who knows who you were doesn't go well with his escape plan. He enjoys killing and values others' lives very little, but he doesn't kill left and right to simply entertain himself - he kills when people get in his way (shown best in the mission Best Friends). He's ambitious. She was just collateral damage.
And he eventually decides to kill Danny as well, when it turns out that only one of the two can be "free" in one body - but why didn't he initially? Why drag the weakling around for the whole game when your only desire is to break free? Especially in one of the endings, that's exactly what happens - only there's also the bonus of having the bridge removed. I don't think it would have been hard for Leo to impersonate Daniel initially and get the bridge removed this way, given the amount of time they've known each other. Danny also doesn't remember anything due to amnesia and goes away when asked to, but Leo remembers everything AND watches over what Danny is doing, he's an implant, he's not even organic.

But no, for some weird reason Leo takes some care of Danny, patiently teaches him to kill, even compliments him when he's doing it good. Always calls him Danny and never by his full name or last name, like if they were friends. For some reason, he brings Danny home, where he has an anti-amnesiac stashed, even though Leo himself would benefit more if Danny remembered nothing and obeyed him blindly.

And I was thinking about that, and also about the fact that the plot was originally supposed to be something else. No one knows what exactly, because the game was cleaned out of almost all the leftovers. Only a few additional weapons and kills were left in the code. All we know is that the levels were in a slightly different order .

What if, in the original plot, Leo needed Danny because Danny himself was a scientist who worked on the project? And then the anti-amnesiac part makes sense, because if Danny remembers the details of his work, the bridge properties and all, then Leo can count on him in all this "getting free" job. Leo, of course, is seemingly not affected by amnesia, but he has no knowledge in the field, and was not there to spy before he was implanted into Danny. Even if he gets hold of some documents, he won't understand much, and it would be important to keep Danny safe for this part. Thus, they would have both gradually progress from one scientist to another: first the assistants, then Pickman, and then Dr. Daniel Lamb himself. And then it would turn out that only one personality can live in one body, and the same two possible endings would have followed.
