Description

Chok Chok is a farmer--specifically, a soil farmer.

In the Canopy, "soil" is actually a rich substance consisting of rotted tree matter, and cultivating it is a slow process for the very patient. It is, however, a respectable and highly valued profession--without soil, agriculture cannot be pursued.

As a soil farmer Chok Chok zealously keeps track of the health of her various composting critters--mostly treeborne beetles and maggots, but a few earthworms borne up from the earth below several generations back by Descenders.

Despite her profession, Chok Chok is meticulously well-kept and always likes to look her best after a hard day of work, although she prefers a minimal aesthetic and does not often garb herself in finery despite having a tidy store of valuables and a lucrative profession. She is quiet and softspoken, and although she enjoys being admired for both her looks and her beautiful singing voice, she prefers to keep out of conversation out of a mortifying fear of saying something stupid. It is not so much that she is not clever--it is more that it takes her some time to arrive at what she wishes to say.

Chok Chok lives alone on the family farm, the only child of her now-deceased parents, and keeps company only with a freckled Statta who frequently perches on her shoulder as she works, and patrols nightly to keep intruders out of the "fields" of earth mounded up on the broad, flat branches Chok Chok calls home.
