They'd met in the conservatory, of course--it was a frequent visitor, and much more inclined to conversation than she was. So much more that she'd found herself talking to it, and listening to its tales of its home, of its exploits chasing humans out of the forest--a pasttime she could heartily approve. She expressed, almost offhandedly, a wish to see this forest, and it had promised her an adventure.

But weather remained to it a mystery, in many ways, and so it was mildly surprised to see that the light dusting of snow it had left had become a heavy blanket, and that the creek where it led her had been choked by ice, only a small window of running water below.

No matter, it said. Let's go exploring, it said; we'll surely find something interesting.
