Description
Sherlock suddenly howled in frustration after four hours of deep thinking.
He had been leaning on his hands for the entire time, occasionally blinking and frowning, but still completely motionless. Even though the noise shocked me, I was relieved to know that he hadn't become comatose in his state of thought.
"You okay Sherlock?" I asked, not looking up from my paper.
"This case doesn't make any sense, John! Nothing fits together, there are too many variables!"
"Oh yes?" I murmured, only half paying attention.
"I wanted to get this case solved by tomorrow afternoon, but at this rate it'll take me days.. My brain isn't working, John!" He cried, spinning and falling onto the sofa with a winded exhale.
"You know that's not true. Perhaps if you went to bed or relaxed a little you could think more clearly."
Sherlock growled, facing the back of the sofa and curling into a ball. His tie and coat lay strewn on the floor from when he walked in, and his tie was hanging loosely from his shirt. He looked quite a mess, and I worried about him slightly. When he was this stuck on a case, circumstances never turned out well.
I sighed, folding my paper and moving to go and sit next the curled up detective.
"Listen, it'll come to you the less you obsess over it. Zoning out like that won't help if you're stuck. I promise." I explained, rubbing his arm in a failing attempt to comfort my boyfriend.
Well. A boyfriend of sorts. As much of a relationship Sherlock could muster.
"It won't work.." He murmured, continuing to whisper faint detail of the case until he felt overwhelmed.
"Sherlock, sit up."
He looked at me with wide, grey eyes and complied silently, a rare occurrence that he'd actually bother to listen to me.
I put my arm around him and we both leant back on the sofa, although I could tell that he was still tense and still thinking about his case. He rested his head on shoulder and released a sigh, shuffling slightly to stay comfortable.
"I think I've hit a brick wall on this case, John." He said, shakily, the words obviously paining him slightly.
I put my other hand on his cheek, and he turned to face me. Placing my forehead against his I looked at him straight, making sure that he was listening to me.
"You are the Sherlock Holmes. There is nothing that your mind can't comprehend with enough time. No case has beaten you yet, and none ever will. Trust me. I believe in you, Sherlock."
I leant forward and kissed him, wrapping my arms around his neck as I did so. He relaxed, pulling me in closer to him by hugging my lower back and he shut his eyes slowly. I pulled away, and held my forehead to his again, with the stain of a smile resting on my lips.
"John..?"
"Yes, Sherlock?"
"I think I just solved the case.."
I let out a airy giggle and he chuckled along with me, pulling me into a tight embrace.
"Thank you, Watson."
