Description
This is the shuttlebay of the Potemkin, an Excelsior-Class starship that was mentioned several times in 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'. It was one of the previous postings of William Riker, before being XO on the Enterprise.
For several additional renders, including outside views, please visit my portfolio .
I started this project by using the incredible Excelsior model by Chris Kuhn as reference for the shape of the room. Once that was done, I pretty much left said shape influence my direction. The massive doors ended up being a huge waste of space, while the location of the room at the back end of the ship limited its layout. No elevators would fit in given the lack of space below the bay, and no doors leading to internal bays could be made to fit on the back wall either.
The shuttles are shown on their storage pads. Before launch, they'd be moved via tractor beams to their respective launch pads (the yellow rectangles) at the center of the bay. Arriving shuttles would do the reverse procedure.
The two Type-7 shuttles are named Sorensen and Kuhn, in gratitude for their help. Chris' magnificent Excelsior model made this project possible, and David helped me recover several assets used on the bay, which I originally did long ago for a certain fan game. The smaller Type-15 pods are named Sahade, Zadunaisky, Ringuelet, Varsavsky and Dubner, in honor of Argentine mathematicians and space scientists.
3D model done in Blender, texture work and computer displays done in Inkscape

Starfleet clean to a tee, something we all miss in these *current* Treks. Lovely work on the shuttlebay, the soft lighting is very impressive!

This is so awesome. I love seeing spaces like this one, spaces that were never shown on TV or the movies.
