Β And what ever happened to the prototype of the Zodiac class?

The Zodiac-Class itself is not canon, only being mentioned in the Encyclopedia. Besides, even if it did exist in the Trek universe, we don't know when the original ship was commissioned. The prototype for the Zodiac-Class might have been done in the 23th Century, and have long been destroyed or decommissioned before the 2050's.

Β I didn't know it only existed in the Encyclopedia. Even then, I kind of assumed that still made the class, and the Yorktown canon.
Β I was thinking more like the Zodiac was a mid 24th Century design, and she herself was destroyed during the Cardassian Border Wars.

Nah, it doesn't make it canon. Some stuff of the Encyclopedia fits in very nicely with established canon, but there are some things added that directly contradict some episodes, such as certain ships being of a different class or having a different registry.
