what is with this fad of taking a screen shot of my little pony scenes and using background eraser around the character? really its a flash animated show which means there are hardly any drawn in shadows and everything is clean, so it takes nearly a quarter of the time instead of painstakingly drawing it yourself.

While I won't suggest it's as hard as actually drawing an original image, vectoring still takes some skill and patience. It involves following all the lines and shapes of a reference image using a vectoring program like inkscape. It's basically recreating the original image that the artist created, which was lost in the quality change to television. you'll note that vectors have much greater fidelity than a screencap from the show could possibly have.

i know what its like tracing over lines i use illustrator and flash professional 8 its just the idea of making a higher resolution of something that exists in its exact form, and im not talking about cleaning up either, just imagine how easily this could be done though once they finally release the show on dvd and bluray, then its just a matter of popping it in, taking a screenshot and using bg removal on a largescale 1080p screenshot, i'm not sure what you do but i've seen other people use that method on other cartoons especially flashmade ones

Unless the subject is filling the whole frame at the time, I don't think it's possible to get the same level of fidelity from a screenshot. For example, this vector couldn't fit on an HDTV because of its pixel size, which means this level of detail couldn't be gotten from a screencap even if the subject filled the whole screen. I know it isn't original and would never try to take credit for it, but I just like seeing characters from the show in a higher quality, and I can't draw at all so this is my way of contributing.
