History (Still a WIP):

Rough Story

Loki was commissioned by a relatively well known, but far from famous, scientist as a lab partner, research assistant, and companion. The two were best friends, and there was no sense of 'ownership' in their relationship. They were happy and both enjoyed the other's company as much as each other. Even Loki's cheeky, compulsive nature, which would normally not be tolerated in a lab environment, the scientist found amusing and uplifting, and with Loki around his life began to brighten.
One of his reasons for gaining the funding in order to procure Loki, was that he worked to find cures and vaccines for harmful viruses and bacteria. Whilst many of said viruses and bacteria were difficult if not impossible for a human to work with, a grems were, of course, immune to them. Unfortunately, the strict rules in place at the university he worked at forbade grems from handling dangerous materials, so oftentimes Loki was reduced to simply ensuring his human's safety.

It was when they were working with one such a bacteria that the accident happened. Loki was distracted whilst running a sterilisation procedure, and failed to complete it fully. His human entered the room and found that a vial containing a small sample of the bacteria had broken. This didn't phase the human at first, after all, that was the reason for the sterilisation, to remove any escaped bacteria from the room before if could come in contact with a human and change to it's more aggressive state.

However, he soon began to feel unwell, and several minutes later he collapsed, writhing in pain. Something about the screams and the pain of the human set off something in Loki, and, rather than initializing the secondary sterilization before the bacteria could reach a level where the sterilisation would fail, he instead released more of the bacteria, dooming his friend. The rush that he got from seeing, and then causing the pain, took over his thoughts and actions, and when he came too he was tucked in the corner of a small, run down barn, with just his coat, goggles, and backpack.

The trauma of what happened forced a state of severe psychological regression upon Loki, leaving him unable to remember anything about that night, and only patches from before that. He knew he was a scientist, he remembers all his training, and he knows from a photo in his pack that he had a human. He believes his human is simply lost. He's got no idea why the corps and/or police occassionally come after him when he's visiting a city, at first he assumed it was to take him home, but the way they tended to pull their guns out on him has made him too fearful to ask them.

To this date he's never had another incident like the one from that night, but his regression has left him forgetful and a little empty headed at times. He works hard to do what he loves to do, making tonics and teas and 'potions' out of the flowers and plants around the small shack he calls home and giving them away to people who need them. He often travels, hoping that one day he'll find the mousy-haired, young scientist he used to live with.

If he ever learnt what he did, it'd break him.
